Devinelounge
I need to trim the airbrakes off my 1/48 Tamiya Viper to make room for my aftermarket airbrakes in open position. Does anyone have a suggestion on the best saw or tool otherwise to be able to precisely cut in a straight line through these plastic bits? Thanks!
jbryan911
This is my go to: http://umm-usa.com/onlinestore/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=10&products_id=35&osCsid=d2fd28fe06e376770becbcab9998a2c1 Very fine kerf, so you do not loose much in the way of material. It is also great for removing delicate pieces from the sprue with out breaking, as well as scribing panel lines.
airmechaja
Micro Mark is a supplier for for the saws you need. I really like the ones that fit into a Xacto handle. https://www.micromark.com/search?keywords=xacto handle saw
ElectroSoldier
Tamiya does some photo etched saw blades which Ive used to remove and reset flaps control surfaces of models without having to fillet the parts back to the right size. CMK do a 70 tooth saw blade which is also very fine.
Ben Brown
+1 on the UMM saw. I've found those saw blades Micro Mark sells that fit the #11 Xacto handle difficult to use, because they're too flexible. They tend to bind up in whatever you're sawing. Ben
Devinelounge
Thanks, all! I went with the UMM saw. Will let you know how I make out!
