F4DPhantomII
What was used in cockpit?
RichardL
Most photos show a light gray color similar to dark gull gray.
Glynn Jacobs
Whoa there Friend, Dark Gull Gray is not so "light". Depending on scale, a color like Humbrol 64 does he trick for me in 72nd scale. My 2¢, WARDOG
RichardL
Yeah, Dark Gull Gray is slightly too dark. Maybe neutral gray or light ghost gray? Humbrol 64 could work.
Glynn Jacobs
Hey Richard, To me (and my old eyes), when I look at other Viggen cockpit pics, the gray looks like that on the right-side console, where the sun is shining. I BELIEVE it appears to be a little darker on the instrument panel and left-side because of the way the sun is shining on them. Can't wait to get some MRP paints and start working on my 72nd Heller AJSH and JA-37s! Take Care, WARDOG
erik_g
The interior color is mainly a neutral light/medium gray. Photos of instrument panels taken at the Svedino Museum in southern Sweden below. Note the slight difference between the slightly more blueish grey panel for the JA 37Di and the other versions, including the regular JA panel. That looks like the same gray used in the Gripen. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ftxo8TSw3hocw9HYpy-7fescIfpDQhWy/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TPYUiCeNJ1SKV2ogZnsEukRu2XtakQd7/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iQL7VtHhlUyicj_Fb2BI_xk8EL6AdT6P/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x72nOoVSnK7K8gKpL2EAZWJcmDPMcmVK/view?usp=sharing BTW, The second link from the top shows the AJ 37 instrument panel, the others are JA 37, JA 37Di (not D) and SF 37 (recce version, camera sight instead of radar) Edited November 11, 2020 by erik_g
barkin mad
On a similar theme, what colour are the basic undercarriage legs? Is it the same colour as the cockpit or is it some kind of silver? I am aware that some of the struts and other parts attached to the legs are a fairly bright silver colour. I can also see the bays and doors appear to be a dull aluminium. Thank you in advance. -----------
erik_g
The main strut colour is grey, with various metal colours for varous parts. The doors are dull anodized aluminium. Except for the doors attached to the MLG, they look like they are light grey on my reference photos. Maybe they all are of a/c with composite doors. The bays are a mixture of mainly anodized aluminium (photos from a JA 37 and an AJ 37, both belonging to Swedish Air Force Museum. RichardL
5 hours ago, erik_g said: BTW, The second link from the top shows the AJ 37 instrument panel Thanks for the pics. The second link shows a gray with a slight yellow tint. Is the yellow tint from lighting or is that how the color looks in real life?
erik_g
Its the flourecent lightning that gives the gray a slightly greenish tint. In the photos from Aeroseum the same grey is slightly blueish due to camera flash. It is a quite neutral grey to the eye.
