hemspilot
Howdy all, when looking at photos of the above mentioned, it seems as at one time there was a fixed forward fairing and at one time the whole pylon was going with the door. was this in anyway related to the change of door design, from a split to a single door configuration, it's difficult to tell from the photos available. Thanks all.
f86esabre
At one point they they mounted an Aim-7 Sparrow on that pylon. Steve
habu2
Each of the main gear doors were always one piece. It was the nose gear door that was two parts on the YF and one part on the production jets. it’s hard to see the gear door pylon details in many pics, IIRC there were some close ups posted in the Caracal forum Early Viper thread. . Some of the photos show what seems to be an aerodynamic fairing in front of the main gear door where the pylon front part would end, and the pylon being just as long as the door. habu2
Yes it does look like there were at least two configurations. One had a door mounted pylon longer than the door, the other had a door mounted pylon that ended at the front of the main gear door (can't see the rear) and a fuselage mounted fairing in front of the door.
