Su-27UB 'Flanker-C' (GWH 1:48)

Recommended Posts

I haven't posted anything in this section for a while but I've decided that this is about to change.

Brand new GWH kit of the Su-27UB in 1:48 and from my initial inspection, I am quite certain you can make it into outstanding looking model without use of any aftermarket products.

Progress is slow as I have a bunch of exams at work in the near future and parenting and other hobbies take a toll, but still, I am gaining momentum with this build nevertheless.

First completed piece is front gear well - I am doing an early version of the UB so I've chosen the open bay with all the piping and structure visible but GWH provides a closed well for later versions as well.

Hello,

Nice to see someone putting this together.  Starting off great with some nice detail painting. 👍

I have one in my stash I just picked up so will be watching with interest.

Happy Modeling,

Chris

Thanks guys!

I've got a bunch of learning to do for my upcoming ATC exams so not much time for modelling, unfortunately. I managed to finish the main wheel wells though.

Thank you, Dave!

During studying for the exams, (this old head of mine doesn't suck knowledge in as it used to and has to be constantly beat into submission :D) I managed to do a few relaxation modelling sessions and here's the result so far.

Aft cockpit mostly painted up.

Front cockpit painted and washed.

And side by side comparison.

Very nice cockpit. Did not know there was 'early' and 'late' style nose landing gear bay.

I wasn't as well, but then checked resources, and there are...

Anyway, finished with exams and I managed to more or less finish the cockpits

The cockpits look great!  I hope your exams went well.

Take care,

Chris

Thank you Chris!

Real life is interfering with my modelling so I am not progressing as fast as I would like to. Luckily, the kit is not fighting me back and here she is - for the first time the plastic pieces joined into a beautiful Flanker shape.

Nice progress there, mate! As you said, it's really getting that familiar Flanker shape.

Very nice pit too. I'm taking this is just pure styrene (with obviously very neat gauge decals), no PE on the instrument panel? The ejection handles surely would have benefited from etched parts, but the seat otherwise looks very pretty.

You know, I too got sidetracked from my usual scale (or was it you who lured me there..? 😁) since I just ordered my second ever 1/48 kit - from the same company!

(And yes, that first 1/48 kit will be getting some attention soon too.)🙂

You are right on both accounts. All plastic so far and yeah, ejection seat handles are a bit on a thick side. Gauges actually come in a single instrument panel decals, but I cut them off individually and applied them one by one and filling the faces with UV glue, creating glass like effect - not really seen in the photos, but looks nice in person.

Well it was never my intention and to tell you the truth, my modelling table atm is too small for this Flanker. I constantly keep on hitting things with it so I am really looking forward to going back to my 1:72 😄 Not the Tomcat, you didn't?

Very nice.   It looks the part now!  Hopefully you will have it ready to paint soon!

Steve

Thanks Steve! I was hoping I will have her ready in primer until the end of Easter but to no avail. So hopefully I'll be able to do this by the end of the coming week, though I managed to paint the engine area and exhausts, which I'll show in the following days.

I know it wasn't and it's actually been very interesting. Hence the second kit.

Yeah, the size definitely is a problem in an average European sized room with their average furniture. I've lost most of the nice wing tip details on the Foxhound...😄

Well surely not the F-14 (if you mean AMK, I've followed with interest the thread here right from the start), but something from GWH: an early type 9-12. Clearly more compact than Flanker and probably an aircraft I like even more.
