Blackbird/Hasegawa 1/72 Lockheed OP-2E

Recommended Posts

My first post to the Display Case.

This is my 1/72 Lockheed OP-2E variant of the venerable Neptune. I built this using the Blackbird conversion of the Hasegawa kit with some help from and old C Scale white metal conversion. I also used the Pavla and Eduard interiors and the Caracal P2V Neptune Part 2 decal set.

The OP-2E was a Neptune variant that was primarily used to drop "Adsid" sensors (Air Delivered Seismic Detection), along the Ho Chi Minh trail. There were 12 of these built for the Navy's Observation Squadron Sixty-Seven (VO-67), and 3 were lost. More information can be found at http://www.vo-67.org/vo67_opening.html.

I did a WIP on another forum and you can see it here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235069602-lockheed-172-op-2e/

so I won't go into details here. Other then to say that on the whole the Blackbird conversion fit and worked well with the only trouble areas being the main canopy and the tail. Also the Pavla and Eduard interiors are for a P2V-7 and the OP-2E is a P2V-5 so they are not really correct for the OP-2E. On the whole I am happy with the way it came out except for my usual nemesis of dust infiltration into the interior.
