I really love what I am reading to be the Russian demo version of the Su-27SKM (from wiki):

Sukhoi_Su-27SKM_at_MAKS-2005_airshow.jpg

I believe this is a one-of scheme. Is it possible to build this version out of this new GWH kit? I looked around a bit but all I see is the mention of a new engine for the SM and I also see the IRST placement is different. Not sure if differences in the engines are internal or if the cans are also impacted. So, while this looks like a no-go, I'm curious to hear what other differences there are.

IRST is moved as you have noted, there is a refuel probe, the triangle RWR's on the intakes are removed and different instrument panel. Probably a few antennas here and there too. Moving IRST would be the hardest, but probably doable in theory. The other things should be pretty easy. Maybe GWH will do a SM version, that could cover that demo bird, Russian SM and SM3's and the Indonesian SKM's. But that is a question to Haneto and GWH.

Thank you Berkut! Awesome info as always.

What's wrong with that Academy kit?

It is a little short (by a pitot tube) and the nose needs replacing. Any other issues are minor.  And despite what anyone says you'll never notice the shortness, I've built nearly a dozen Academys and they look fine next to more recent models of 1/48 Flankers.

I think the under sized canopy could be quite critical, which I had to make some vacuum ones 11 years ago.

Very true. Several of mine have your canopies on them.

Thanks for choosing it. Yes I know it's not an easy product to use, the cutting/trimming/dry fitting could take so much time and effort and no tolerance for mistakes, but it's the best solution at the time 10 years ago.

Glad that now we can build a decent Flanker out of box without any hard work in a very short time period, to enjoy the built itself, finally. 🙂

No but if you are investing all that time like with one of these Sol conversions it was good to have your canopies and IRST, I still have one of each that I'll use on renovating some older kits.

I'm happy to see all the under canopy plumbing finally addressed on these new kits, I was getting bone tired of making them for each Flanker.

Hi guys

So here is the upcoming GWH 1/48 Su-27 "Flanker B" kit test shot.
I received it last weekend but finally found some time to take photos of the set.

As I have emphasized many times:
the design concept of this kit, is to take the best balance between good details/accuracy and user friendly.
We hope you can enjoy not only the final result, but also the building process of it!

Please refer to the photos and comments I added, and hope you will enjoy it.

Have a nice weekend!

P.S: the photo quality has been decreased due to automatic compression of the forum, you can visit my Facebook album for original ones here:
