e-2c hawkeye info

Recommended Posts

Looking for more info on this airframe. Either my research skills suck or there ain't much out there. I know it was involved in one of the Desert storm shoot downs but thats about all I came up with. Plus looking for any possible decal sheet for it as well, any help would be appreciated.

Pretty sure the kill marking is in regards to the solitary aerial victory claimed by F-14s during the Gulf War involving a VF-1 Tomcat blasting an Iraqi Mi-8 "Hip" helicopter.  VF-1 & VAW-116 were both squadrons part of Carrier Air Wing TWO (CVW-2) embarked aboard USS Ranger (CV-61).

Of note, at least two Sun King E-2s sported the victory marking post-conflict so it's possible the photographed Hawkeye wasn't actually the one involved with controlling the intercept.  VF-1's "helo killer" has been done in 1/48 scale but I'm unaware of any VAW-116 decals.
