P-47 D Lt. Oiler's "Eileen" cowling inside color.

Recommended Posts

hi you all.

i'm back from a geological era. a modeling slump to go afar with simplification.

anyway, i saddled up again and for good belting in a few months a pacific "spirit of 76" p-38 and a very nice yellow winged f-2 a buffalo.

now, i am beginning to work on this great checkered jug, 1/72nd, academy.

the title says it all: neither in my books nor on the internet i was able to find a definitive answer. and, as the thunderbolt has quite a large front section with the very visible air duct i deem the matter quite of relevance. i mean, it ain't the color of the switch that was placed below the pilot's bottom, right?

i have seen plain aluminum on bare metal p-38, some zinc chromate on o.d., and others painted the same color of the cowling exterior...but what with a black-and-white checkered pattern?

i thank you in advance for your contributions.

best ciaos, bobo.
