Thadeus
Hi folks. I'm planning a build of VFC-12 F/A-18D BuNo 164263 as depicted in Kinetic kit. I'm going to use the Hobby Boss Hornet. https://www.mojehobby.pl/products/F-A-18A-C-D-Aggressor-VFC-12-VFA-204.html https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9251882 I always thought that Navy Deltas had Bravo style aft IP's along with the IP cover. I found this photo: https://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/McDonnell-Douglas-F-A-18D-Hornet/1619197?qsp=eJwtjEEKwkAMRe%2BStZtamUV3egFdeIEw%2BWixOkMS0KH07sbB3eM9eCvl8nJ8/NoqaCIDa77TjiorP42mlR5o76ISTEM67NMY1Yr6qYURdhxzRnXI359VoL8Ey310i/EQAL10pjGFl9nqwv0B53mhbfsC8fkt0Q%3D%3D So now I'm looking for any info I can get on the actual Instrument Panel. Is it the Night Attack style or the earlier B style? Does anyone have any info or pics? I know it's a Lot XIII jet. But that doesn't give me any more info. There used to be a site, a wiki of sorts with Hornet BuNo's and some general info on lots, but it's taken down. I'm asking, since the HB kit actually gives You the night attack style aft IP. Thanks for any help You can give me.
Dave Roof
A Delta is a Delta regardless of who's operating it, the Marine Corps or the Navy. It will have the NA style instrument panel and cover. Edited February 27, 2021 by Dave Roof
habu2
I'm not a Hornet expert so I defer to Dave, but I thought "all NA jets are Deltas but not all Deltas are NA jets" Has this changed? Have all Deltas been upgraded to NA avionics in the aft pit?

I did find some pics of older Lot Hornets from VFA-106, that still had the Bravo aft IP cover. https://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/McDonnell-Douglas-F-A-18D-Hornet/508971?qsp=eJwtjcEKwkAMRH9Fcla0CCK9VaRXPRRPXsLuoMXqLtmAXUr/3XTxlMfM8DKRCx/FqF2OoJoSWNyT1hRZ%2BJ2onuiF/A3ijam9b5tNdTyvbq3d3cF2KYiesnWeFY1ziAr/zy/iIUuF5IryYS8qA8i1MO0Xhe9THLg4oNwPNM8/iuMwSA%3D%3D https://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/McDonnell-Douglas-F-A-18D-Hornet/1695861?qsp=eJwtjcEKwkAMRH9Fcla0CCK9VaRXPRRPXsLuoMXqLtmAXUr/3XTxlMfM8DKRCx/FqF2OoJoSWNyT1hRZ%2BJ2onuiF/A3ijam9b5tNdTyvbq3d3cF2KYiesnWeFY1ziAr/zy/iIUuF5IryYS8qA8i1MO0Xhe9THLg4oNwPNM8/iuMwSA%3D%3D https://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Navy/McDonnell-Douglas-F-A-18D-Hornet/2035422?qsp=eJwtjcEKwkAMRH9Fcla0CCK9VaRXPRRPXsLuoMXqLtmAXUr/3XTxlMfM8DKRCx/FqF2OoJoSWNyT1hRZ%2BJ2onuiF/A3ijam9b5tNdTyvbq3d3cF2KYiesnWeFY1ziAr/zy/iIUuF5IryYS8qA8i1MO0Xhe9THLg4oNwPNM8/iuMwSA%3D%3D So I guess it could be, that once the modified IP cover was introduced the rear cockpit had the three mfd's in a row. That would make sense. Now that I think of it, USMC Deltas (the ones in combat squadrons) didn't have the center stick in the aft cockpit. Only the two sidesticks. I guess that wouldn't make a good trainer. But that doesn't mean the Navy Deltas (or the VMFAT-101 assigned ones) couldn't be fitted with a stick, if the wiring and everything is there. Dave Roof
Okay, checked a little further and stand corrected. There are/were 31 F/A-18D's that had the non-missionized cockpit. All Lot 10 (blocks 23,24 and 25 - 23 aircraft) and Lot 11 (blocks 26, 27 and 28 - 8 aircraft) Deltas with BuNo's 163434 thru 163778. The F/A-18D you want to replicate has the missionized cockpit with the later panel and cover.
