Cleaning airbrush after X-22/leveling use

Recommended Posts

Hi USAFsparkchaser,

To clean my airbrush, I always use the same thinner that I use for painting or clear coats. Like you, I also use Tamiya X22 with MLT, so in my case, I would use MLT. Works wonders.

My procedure, is exactly the same as on this video (except for the use of the Ultimate Airbrush Cleaner):

For a more thorough cleaning, I would do the same, plus disassembling the airbrush.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Tato

I used hardware store lacquer thinner to clean my airbrush after using the same combination for a clear coat. It is just like cleaning after any other paint job, but since the paint is clear it is harder to tell when the airbrush is totally clean.

I also use hardware store lacquer thinner, which is much cheaper than Mr. Hobby Leveling Thinner.  Nowadays I thin Tamiya paints with Tamiya X-20A thinner, so I clean my airbrush parts with 99% IPA after removing the needle and nozzle.

I’m in the same “clean with generic lacquer thinner” group. I’ll usually thin paint for spraying with the manufacturer’s recommended thinner, but clean up is with the generic stuff. Since at this stage the object is to clean the airbrush, not trying to get the best possible results with the painting, use what cleans most efficiently.
