Trumpeter Su-15 Any good?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying one of the Trumpeter 1/48 Flagons. Does anyone know if these are any good?

Also any help on what the differences are between the A, F and G versions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks. In what way? Is it just slow?

Cheers

Yes, very informative -- good job on the article. FWIW I had not trouble with the behavior of the site.

Don't know about the 1/48 ones but the 72nd ones need a plethora of Pavla resin items to correct them.  That includes the nose, cockpit, vertical stabilizer, and dorsal area.

It seems to be the curse of Trumpeter in action; models of subjects we want but of limited use (accuracy-wise!).

Apologies Jon, I should have explained.

I had some trouble with the links but all seems well now.

Great builds, the Fishpot also.

There's some very useful 1/48th stuff from Begemot, North Star, Pavla, Eduard etch (if you can still find it), Master and Aires Aerobonus and Quickboost.

The intake trunking needs "rounding" a bit at the shoulders from about mid-wing, and wings set at 2⁰ anhedral.

The kits are a bit out, as if the CAD designer or a practical joker at an office party "stretched" the accurate shape longitudinally (because it looked cooler?), but it stilllooks the part and is very impressive.

If you go with it, get the Su-15TM Taifun Mod boxing, as you can choose between a cellulose aluminium or camo finish.

All,

Thanks so much for your insights, very helpful indeed.

Not sure if I'll buy though - it does have a lot a of issues, but a very impressive subject.
