Dog1
i need to airbrush a small area right adjacent to a white line decal marking . Can i mask the strip with tamiya tape and will it damage the strip upon removal of the tape?
chukw
Post-it notes would be better, imho. Use light air pressure and several light coats to avoid a 'wet' coat from leaking under the mask- good luck!
ElectroSoldier
Depends how complicated the area you have to paint is but you could free mask it by cutting and holding something like Frisket film in the way to stop the over spray
TheRealMrEd
Better yet, spray a coat of Alclad II Aqua Gloss water based paint over the decal let dry, then mask with Parafilm "M" and don't worry at all... Ed
Alternative 4
I would definitely seal the decal with future/tamiya X-22 before putting a post it note over it. I tried the post it trick with out sealing the decal and the post it lifted it off the model.
thegoodsgt
I avoid masking over decals at all costs. Keep in mind that an application of your clear varnish of choice, it's very, very thin and liable to lift off with the decal. Proceed with great caution!
Dog1
we do not have Alclad products in thailand while parafilm m is readily available . What would be the equivalent of the alclad product by Tamiya or Mr Color ? This is a 600 USD MFH Porsche 956 and i dont want to screw it up .
Alleycat
This may be a little late but a strip of wet newspaper worked for me. Do not put anything with adhesive on it over decals, no matter what they are sealed with. Also, do not build up the paint along the masked line and remove the paper while the paint is still wet. Dog1
ALLEYCAT thanks for method , i will try this . The newspaper has glue in the paper so wetted and then removed could work ,will try it .
bashace
I use the medical tape for sensitive areas when I mask over decals, when pulling the tape off, pull it back over itself slowly and closely, haven't pulled a decal off yet.
