TAMIYA F4B PHANTOM II 1/48.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

The white is painted and the grey is next. The missiles and fuel tank are tacked on for show. Unlike the last time, I use C62 which is flat white. Much less prone to over coat like the gloss (C1). Dai

Been snooping on Richie B's thread and could find nothing about them.

Cheers,

Hi all,

On the Sidewinder pylons, the center rack is not used. I just bought the Hasegawa Weapon Set C and I would like to know if there is anything on the set that I can drop fit into the un-used rack? Thanks Dai

Center rack would carry bombs or rockets, or a TER. I see nothing in that set for the center of F-4B inner pylon on

Greetings,

The Tamiya's pitot and RAM intake are over sized so I placed them with the Master Model brass tubes. Since I have to drill the holes and fill/sand them, I now lost the square panels as noted on the arrows. What is the best way to restore these details? The corners are rounded and I am horrible at scribing. Your expert help is very appreciated. Dai

Hi all,

Finished painting the bays. I need to soften the demarcation lines as they are too sharp. Even with the raised mark technique still needs to correct. I will have to use highly diluted paint and low psi to go over and soften the lines. The scheme will be VMFA 115 with the all white tail. Dai

Hello all,

Remember the first Phantom that I could not live with some missing panel lines? Well these mistakes are too minor to forget the plane so I would like to make it with an interesting scheme. Except for the blade antennas that are easily fabricated is the QF-4B-18 eternally the same as the kit's F4B? Also can anyone point out available paint for this bird? Thanks Dai

If you don't like the thin consistency of MRP, then I wouldn't use that one, as it is going to take several coats to get the color to the level you desire.  I would anticipate 2 bottles for an entire 1/48 Phantom.

You are right. Is there a need for MRP to be that thin? Dai

Dai, nothing wrong with the orange drone but if you’re looking to hide the panel lines on the other F-4B maybe look at the camouflaged F-4’s the Navy trialed early during Vietnam.  I believe one was overall FS 34102 green on top … that might cover some of the panel lines you weren’t happy with.  There were a few others but don’t recall the schemes off the top of my head.  Kitty Hawk air wing around 1965-66?  Just a thought.
