Dog1
i am unable to airbrush a color that matches the same with spray can . For example spray can Tamiya white and airbrush any white tamiya acrylic or Gunze lacquer ,the difference is the spray can is white gloss and the airbrush result is almost grey in comparison , same for yellow , bright blue and many other light colors . If you finish a model using both spray can and airbrush for the same color the result is obvious ,the spray can color is bright and gloss the airbrush is dull and dark . Is this always the case or is there a technique for matching both ?
viper730
You can decant the spray can and use it in your Airbrush. check youtube for some tips on how to decant spray cans.
ElectroSoldier
If the colour match has to be exact then I would suggest decanting the spray can and using that in an airbrush if it must be airbrushed. Its common for the spray can version of a colour to have a different hue to the airbrushed equivalent.
kozlok
A gloss paint always looks brighter than a flat finish. I suspect your airbrush mixes may be off. To get good gloss from an airbrush, the final coat should have a very large portion of thinner, maybe twice as much thinner vs paint than you usually use. Get the proper distance, and paint a little bit slower to allow enough to get on the model, and you should get a nicer gloss than you have been. Try taking a scrap bit of model, paint half each way and then finish with dullcoat and see if the colors don't match better. Edited July 29, 2021 by kozlok
