Revell 1/32 P-40E "Flying Tiger" Kit Question

Recommended Posts

How accurate were the markings in the older Revell 1/32 P-40E "Flying Tiger" kit. Curtiss P-40E "Flying Tiger", Revell H-283-380 (1967) (scalemates.com)  They show Robert Hedman's "92" but searching the interweb shows that these were the markings he carried while flying the Hawk H-81A-2 (P-40C).   I remember building this old Revell kit as a kid and always loved the Flying Tiger markings.   Thought about doing up a P-40E in 1/48 with these markings but don't know how authentic it would be.   Any AVG experts out there have the answer?

Hedman's "92" was 15337 (RAF serial AK466), given the Chinese Air Force serial P-8101.  It was the last plane assembled in Rangoon.  He (and Reed) also flew "79", 15521 (RAF serial AK569), given Chinese Air Force serial P-8135.

The P-40Es were assigned numbers above 100.

Olynyk states five of Hedman's six claims were made in P-40Cs (on 23. & 25.Dec. 1941).  A 'half' of an "observation plane" on 20.April 1942 was in a "P-40" but whether this was a C or an E isn't specified.

So I've come to the conclusion that the markings for the Revell 1/32 kit were what was carried on his P-40C and not the E.    Thanks GRM for the info.
