New from Flying Leathernecks - FL32-2025 F-14A/B/D Bomb Racks and FL32-2031 F/A-18A/B/C/D LEX Fence

Recommended Posts

The FPU-6/A Oval Fuel Tank was developed for the F/A-18A/B Hornet in 1978 and used on the FSD aircraft, as well as a few fleet Hornets into the mid 1980's. It was phased out due to fatigue anomalies caused by the oval configuration.

This set includes two hollow tanks that require assembly. Some light sanding to remove support nibs on the mating surfaces of the forward and aft sections is required. Insert the plug, glue the halves together and it's ready for paint.

Parts come as shown in the photo with supports removed.

Im always wary of drop tanks, bombs etc that have a butt joint like that.

There is a reason reputable manufacturers dont do it and even prefer slide mould tooling rather than this method.
If you clean up of the ends is off by even the slightest amount then the tank or bomb wont be straight.

These are 3D printed, come exactly as you see them in the photo, and all production is done out of my home. Sorry I can't afford slide mold tooling to satisfy your modeling needs.

Its just an honest opinion of a problem Dave Roof. I thought that was something you might appreciate, some honest feedback.

Honest feedback is always appreciated. However, when you compare those of us that are one man operations to main stream manufacturers and take a dig by implying we're not "reputable manufacturers", it's difficult to take your opinion 'honestly'. Considering the fact you've never actually used the part is another reason to not take your opinion seriously.

Thats not actually what I said, nor did I imply that you are not reputable.
I think even the most casual forum reader knows Flying Leathernecks is beyond reproach reputation wise. So please dont try and take that line with me, as it is not what I meant at all.

Reread it without the negative slant and you will see I said reputable manufacturers dont do it.
I meant you shouldnt be doing it.
