dmk0210
Not a lot of chatter here in this topic. Giving it a bump for interest. Wasn't the B-57 the first US military aircraft to drop bombs in the Vietnam war? (not sure if the CIA was at it earlier with Farm Gate and some early activity in Laos as well.) Any ETA on this sheet? KursadA
It is still being worked on - no ETA yet
Corey
Oh this would be a sheet I would really be exited about! I got a stack of Classic Airframes B-57’s!!
dmk0210
https://catalog.archives.gov/id/69617 I found a set of USAF videos titled "A Day in the War in Vietnam". These were all filmed in August 24, 1965–August 26, 1965. Videos 4 and 5 have some really great B-57 shots (Also some F-104s that appear to be flying escort for them). I believe this is Bien Hoa AFB. 6251st TFW. 53-3888 is probably somewhere in here, but I couldn't find it, though 53-3889 is clearly shown. Videos 1-3 are F-100s and F-105s. All the aircraft shown are NMF or silver painted. Here is the Shot List: Covers activity of various aircraft in Vietnam, showing F-100s, F-105s, F-104's, FAC 0-1s and B-57s in action. FAC aircraft is shown marking target for fighter attack; other aircraft are shown being loaded with bombs taking off, in flight and landing; F-105s are also shown bombing targets in Vietnam. Reel 1 - 1) Man fusing 750 lb bombs in front of F-100. 2) ECU man fusing 750 lb bombs. 3) F-100 being loaded with bombs by bomb loader. 4) F-100s carrying 750 lb bombs as they take off left past Vietnamese digging ditch alongside runway. 5) F-100s landing. 6) Series of scenes of maintenance men working on landing bar of F-100s. 7) AV of air base with F-100s ready for takeoff. AMS RSV four F-100s on ground preparatory to takeoff. 9) AV LSV F-100 taxiing to takeoff. 10) Series of scenes of F-100s taxiing to stop and pilots debarking and entering van which drives away aircraft being towed away. 11) Series of scenes of F-100s taking off -- aircraft carry 750 lb bombs on outboard pylons. 12) Scenes of pilots preflighting and boarding F-100s. 13) MS LFV F-100 engine starting and aircraft starting to taxi out. 990' Total footage in reel. Reel 2 - 1) Armed F-105 taking off. 2) F-105 engine starting and aircraft taxiing out -- aircraft carry bombs on center pylon. 3) F-105s lined up and starting takeoff run. 4) Spotting rocket being fired by FAC 0-1 as seen from the aircraft. 5) AMS FAC 0-1 firing rocket -- smoke burst visible in foreground. 6) Aerial views of bombing strike as seen from FAC 0-1. 7) AVs of F-105s diving low over riverside target area, dropping bombs and climbing away. AVs of riverside target area -- smoke rising from bomb explosions. AVs of target area seen over shoulder of 0-1 pilot. 9) Bombs being loaded and fused on F-105 pylons. 1025' Total footage in reel. Reel 3 - Series of scenes of bombs being loaded on aircraft wing pylons and being fused. (Poor focus) 545' Total footage in reel. Reel 4 - 1) Scenes of F-104s taking off and landing. 2) Series of scenes showing flight line, bomb carrier train moving across screen and C-47 parked. 3) Bombs being loaded on B-57. 4) Scenes of B-57s landing. 5) F-104 taxiing in past C-130s and past armed B-57s. 6) Fusing and loading of bombs on B-57 wing pylons. 7) B-57s and F-100s landing and F-104s taking off. 777' Total footage in reel. Reel 5 - 1) FV crew chief signalling aircraft to park. 2) MS front LV B-57 being serviced; flight crew preflighting and boarding the aircraft. 3) MS FV crew chief signalling as armed B-57 starts engines. 4) Armed B-57 taxiing out for takeoff. 5) B-57s taking off to left. 6) AMS F-104s landing. 7) AMS LSV B-57 taking off. MCU loaded bomb rack of B-57 rotating to closed position. 9) Series of scenes on flight line - B-57s lined up and starting to taxi. 10) Scenes of F-104s taking off. 11) AMCUs and AMSs B-57s in flight through clouds. 925' Total footage in reel. There are some great modeler reference in there. For example those bombs appear to be WWII vintage. The ones on the F-100 have contemporary tail sections added (and you can see newer paint on the tails), but on the B-57s many have the WWII box fins. Painting those six yellow stripes is going to be a PITA though! 😮 The F-100s shown are the 481st TFS. One of those aircraft is on CD48128 https://www.caracalmodels.com/cd48128.html So this may be Tan Son Nhut AB, not Bien Hoa as I mentioned earlier. Spruemeister
Ok. Are you looking for a resin printed part to expand your 3D line and compliment the coming B-57 decal sheet? Of course you are. 😄 We need an open rotary bomb door to load up with 100 or 250lb boom booms to set off the 750s on the wing stations. Maybe some frags. I can loan you the CA or Airfix fuselage parts if needed. Rick L.

Norm DUbay
EB-57E antennas and the larger scoops under the engines would be welcomed as well a RB-57E nose/ tail and bomb bay with camera windows would be cool as well
KursadA
I am about to complete the design for this sheet - I think you will like the variety of aircraft on it. A few aircraft with nose art, a VNAF example, Patricia Lynns and B-57Gs; period-accurate stencilling that I once again painstakingly figured out from photos. Coming sometime in the next couple of months; first in 1/48 and then 1/72.
AD-4N
I’ll be first in line for both scales.
Corey
Did any EB-57’s make it on? Vermont Air Guard?
KursadA
This one is for Vietnam jets only - I did the Vermont aircraft in 1/48 already. I plan to scale that sheet (CD48178) to 1/72 at some point in the future.

Sorry, I’ve been very distracted as of late but I should have known better. Anyway, I look forward to the Vietnam B-57’s, as does my stack of B-57 kits! corey
skyhawk174
I have a couple of Airfix kits in the stash so excited about this release. I have seen modellers modify the nose on the G as it is very misshapen and inaccurate. Your decals will go a long way in making the Airfix kit a great model.
KursadA
Almost done - 16 options on this sheet, early NMF jets including one in VNAF markings, four camouflaged jets with both PV and PQ tail codes, three RB-47E Patricia Lynns with their unique stencilling that nobody else did, three B-57G. I was amazed how bad and overscale the Airfix kit decals were, until someone informed me that a large number of kits were shipped with 1/32 scale decals, which explains the gigantic size differences from the spec. If you have an Airfix kit in the stash, you will not want to miss this one. I will post profiles as soon as I am done with the instructions for the S-3 Viking sheet; which will arrive in a few days.
