Brad-M
Hey Gang, Anyone here like me who likes to build aircraft from opposing nations of conflict? Like the Bf-109 vs Spitfire or Yak-3 for example. Now that I am almost finished my Mig-25PDS in Russian markings, what combat jet fighter might it have come across from NATO? I have an F-15C to be built, would that be a good match? Maybe an F-16 perhaps? TIA Brad

Brad-M
Ok Guys, thanks for the replies. I was thinking a Russian Mig-25, even though it never happened, I was thinking a Russian 146th Guard Regiment bird versus a NATO combat fighter. I know why the Mig-25 was developed, but I was thinking in terms of a What-If scenario between Russia and NATO. 🙂 Brad
ijozic
MiG-25P/PD/PDS in Soviet Union belonged to PVO units whose primary role was defense from strategic bombers and cruise missiles, though it was not really optimized for low-altitude intercepts to which NATO shifted later on due to long range SAM proliferation. A what-if Cold War scenario could go so many ways and I'm not really familiar on Soviet plans on PVO use over strategic front areas in case of a conflict with NATO. I would wager these units to be involved in defensive missions against NATO deep-strike or perhaps offensive counter-air operations so they could meet e.g. F-15s (or perhaps some F-4Es depending on the year) as potential escorts in some of these missions (if the SAM suppression level permits them to operate over enemy territory). I guess it could technically even face some F-14s as escorts in case of some deep strike missions from a NATO carrier group in the Med or perhaps the North Sea, but its combat range was not really wide, especially at lower altitudes. arg
Since the MiG-25 was developed to intercept the XB-70 (if it had gone into service), what about a forced-perspective in-flight diorama with the Cyber-Hobby 1/200 XB-70 kit in the background, and the MiG-25 in the foreground as if its closing in on the XB-70? I definitely like that idea! Very cool 😎 If that doesn't appeal to you Brad, I just might steal this idea!! 😄 Andy

Dutch
None of you have suggested the obvious answer! RC-135U/V/W. Or, possibly a civil 707! Edited December 2, 2021 by Dutch

Slartibartfast
I recall seeing in a magazine a (long) while back of a Phantom attempting to intercept a MiG-25 and failing by several thousand feet and a few hundred knots. I want to say an Israeli Phantom but don’t quote me on that. Edited December 3, 2021 by Slartibartfast

Now if your flying recce missions all along the perimeter of your enemy's border, if it ain't combat, it comes awful close. Too darn close in some cases. In fact, we have lost over 20 recon aircraft and over 100 crew to Soviet, Chinese, North Korean, etc... interceptors and missiles. Okay, so pair a RC-135U/V/W with a MiG-25 and have both pilots waving the international peace symbol at each other!
