1/48 F-35C Decals

Recommended Posts

Italeri has released a new F-35C in 1/72, and when I asked they indirectly confirmed they would upscale it to 1/48. So there are new F-35C's coming.
I wouldn't be surprised if Tamiya follows not far behind Italeri?

I asked the Tamiya representative at Nationals and he said he thought they'd be releasing one in the future.

Time will tell.

I have the KH F-35C. The raised RAM tape is very pronounced. I build almost exclusively USN subjects and like them all "buttoned up". The weapons doors are designed on this kit to be displayed open. They do not fit very well if you want to close them up. Same for the tailhook doors. It also is missing the APU exhaust on the upper rear fuselage. Other than those issues the kit is ok, not great, just ok. The Italeri lit will certainly be an improvement when it is released. The Tamiya kit will blow them all away. I believe Tamiya will kit the F-35C at some point. They will own the F-35 family if the do.

If anyone wants a KH F-35C, I'll sell it $10.00 plus shipping. PM me if interested and I will describe the condition of the kit.

If I'm not mistaken, Italeri announced the 1/48 kit last year on their Facebook page. I'm holding off on my second F-35 sheet for it to arrive. Should Tamiya release the C, the sheet I draw will work for it as well, as the markings don't fit a specific shape on the jet. All of the F-35B markings on the sheet will be sized to fit the Tamiya kit.

The Navy is SO SLOW getting C squadrons. I get that the Marines are flying F-18's that are falling apart, but some of those Super Hornets aren't spring chickens either.

I think there are 3 things that causes this:
1) The Navy don't appear to be all that thrilled about the F-35C. Sorta F-111 dejavu 😉 Might be wrong though....
2) The C is the "last developed" of the 3 types, meaning it has taken longer to get it to where it needs to be

3) it takes time before the carriers are modified to accept the F-35C's.

Whichever decal maker produces the 1st accurate F-35C decal sheet with all 5 of the active Squadrons should rack up on the orders.  I know I'd be in line.

I asked George(Tamiya Rep) at last years Nat's about the F-35C and got the same response. One thing for sure Tamiya keeps their releases top secret.
