Tornado ADV under-wing pylon attachment markings..

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what are the markings that cover the pylon attachment points under the wings on the Tornado ADV?

It seems that some don't have these pylon attachment markings.

I know the outer pylons are not used on the F.3, but the markings are there.

What do these pylon markings do? Are they necessary?

I think, but can't be sure, they are for showing the max angle the pylons get to when the wings sweep forward and aft, as the pylons move when the wing does, as you have shown with your second pic they aren't necessary. Some F3's did use the outer wing pylons to fit Boz pods and Phimat pods. Primarily also carrying Alarm anti radiation missiles on the underside. Unofficial designation of EF3. Airfix even had a kit released with it.
