Drew T.
Almost there! I finally finished up with oil paint weathering last weekend. In the meantime, I recently bought a light box so I can hopefully start taking some halfway decent photos. Based on photos of F-15E’s flying OIF and OEF missions, they could get pretty filthy. I used the below photo in particular as a guide for weathering: https://nara.getarchive.net/media/a-us-air-force-usaf-f-15e-strike-eagle-335th-fighter-squadron-4th-fighter-wing-a1d03a To simulate the dusty look from operating in the desert, I used Abteilung 502 Cream Brown, which is a pretty close approximation to the color of sand. However, this color tends to be subdued when oversprayed with a protective clear lacquer, so I had to apply a second application after the first coat of Gunze GX113. I used burnt umber on the horizontal stabilizers to replicate the appearance of sand mixed with fluid leaking like the above photos show. To replicate the “cleaner” looking fluid leaks on the bottom of the wings, I applied the linseed oil/paint mixture that collects at the end of the tube in my tube of mars black oil paint. This works well for making “wet” streaks that darken the surface without making it look too black. Once I was happy with the weathering, it was all sealed with my go-to clear flat, Gunze GX113. All that’s left now is final assembly. Looks like I’ll be just under the wire to get this project finished within the year! Thanks for looking!

Planegeek
Wow! Those turkey feathers are perfect! The tan/white deposits like spark plugs get scraped off on the edges as they move leaving the strip down the middle.
