YF-23: Will There Ever Be an Updated 1/72 Kit?

It's been close to 2 decades since there was any 1/72 kit of the ATF competition finalist, bearing in mind that the recent Platz kit is a rebox of the old Dragon kit.

While the Testors kit is indeed decent, it is a very old kit with a lot of details missing that would certainly contribute a lot to the type. Is anyone anywhere working on a new kit with new tooling and parts?

While the YF-23 has a decent cult following for what it could have been and the mystery, I doubt we'll ever see another mainstream kit. But, crazier things have happened.

The Platz kit is actually a rebox of the Italeri/Testors kit and not the Dragon kit.

I agree the Testors kit is the least inaccurate of the two and hence it commands higher prices on eBay.

 

Perhaps Hobby Boss could scale down their 1/48 kit.

In the current situation I cant see any mainstream manufacturer making one at all. It was only really made at the time because it was current.
I would think one of the smaller manufacturers like Anigrand might have a go at it but I doubt we will see a company like Trumpeter have a go.

Nope, It's definitely the Dragon kit.

Check hobby search. The description already says the parts are by Dragon. The photos of the parts list and sprues here https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10776957 Two loose fuselage halves and some parts attached to them., clear sprue, one tiny parts sprue

Then look at the sprues of the dragon kit review here: http://modelingmadness.com/scott/mod/dyf23preview.htm same as above.

I stand corrected, I had confused the Platz kit with the Italeri's rebox by Tamiya.
