A second version of US Navy lady pilot #2 by Reedoak

Recommended Posts

Hello !

We made a second version of our US Navy female fighter pilot standing 2, with some small modifications :

- right hand moved to match the boarding ladder side, gloves are now on.

- left arm moved upward accordingly

- visor down

That’s a great figure but I have to say the pose is a bit nonspecific , like the pilot isn’t sure what to do - pilots usually move with purpose. The empty left hand just sort of hangs there in space. I like the figure, but I will probably give her a helmet bag or remove before flight tags or some other piece of kit for the left hand.

If I may,

The pose is perfect, it shows the individual in motion.

Remember, there are a thousand things going on around the aircraft while the aircrew are doing their walk around, the pose being represented show the aircrew (pilot/WSO) in motion. She is either walking or has just walked up to something (boarding ladder, pylon, etc) the position of her right leg (no aircrew is going to be just standing there with their leg like that). She is either looking at something on the aircraft or her attention is focused on something happening on the deck/flight line. Her left hand is moving to either grab the boarding ladder or something else (verify arming wires/lanyards, circuit breakers in door 10, etc).

As for putting RBF's in her hand, the only time an aircrew would have pins in their hand while on deck is when they are somewhere were their is no ground crew and they have to pull the pins themselves before they man-up. Normally, the only pins aircrew pull themselves is the seat pins and that is right before they get in, they do not pull any of the ground lock pins, arming pins or anything that is down at "deck level", the ground crew pull those after engine start up.

Also, if your scene is a flight deck scene, not many aircrew would have a helmet bag, usually only the E-2's (and S-3's) folks may have one but the A-6, A-7, F-4, F-14, F-18, EA-6B aircrew rarely had one (usually for a fly off or if they were going to the beach for something).

Um, not always, especially on the flight deck. The more senior the aircrew the better they are at doing their walk-around but I've had to help many a junior aircrew with their walk-around. I've also had to "escort" numerous aircrew transition the flight deck (going to/from their aircraft to appropriate catwalk spot), the flight deck is not their realm and if it's a "busy" deck, they are not use to moving around it like the deck crew is.

Bottom line, from someone who has participated in hundreds (if not thousand's) of aircrew walk-around's, the pose is perfect and very realistic.

norbert, I was made aware of your products at another hobby forum and made a purchase of some of your W.W.II figures.  I have to say that they are most impressive and I hope that you add to those lines.  Your products sure put CMK and Aires figures to shame.  Don't get me wrong, those companies offer some nice figures, problem is, they claim to be 1/72, but several sure look to be more like 1/48! and that's a real shame.

I was recently looking at making another purchase, this time some modern US pilots.  That being said, you folks sure seem to have a real hard on for US helicopter pilot figures and carrier deck crew.  I don't know which out numbers which, without actually counting.  I am inclined to run with helicopter pilot figures.  Do you know what I was up to page 8 in your 1/72 listings before I came across some USN pilot figures and page 9 before any that I found with some possible use (I want to replace some of my Hasegawa pilots and add to other kits). Wow!  Not meant as a criticism, but I was beginning to wonder if I was going to come across anything other than helicopter pilots!  LOL

Say, any chance that you will be expanding your W.W.II German figures line (1/72 particularly)?  I'd love to see you work your magic there, particularly with Luftwaffe pilots and ground crew.

These figures are incredible !! Just wish I was better at painting them, they add a lot to a finished model.

Steve

If it may help, a youtube how to paint was recently created by an argentinian modeller :

This is a nice figure. Any chance of something similar but a male pilot?

probably not exactly the same, but other poses will come, endless possibilities
