Geoff M
This is my contribution to the Group Build. Looking at the sprues in the box it looks to be fairly detailed. The only detractor being the flaps are not able to be posed. I guess I can stick a pilot in it and the engines are running The kit itself One of the planes off these decals. Haven't decided yet. Would it be safe to say that a jet from this sheet in 2014 would have the newer ECS pipe things? It is hard to find any pics of that area. Or these, any opinions? A bit of AM stuff to liven it up. Hope to have some work done here shortly. Thanks for looking Geoff M Edited April 19, 2022 by Geoff M
Thadeus
Goood, Goood. Another Hornet. Well, for the ECS, I'd start with the seaforces site. You can also check for the dark gray heat blankets put on the top of the aircraft just aft of the ECS - the older ECS exhausts required them to be present, while the newer ones didn't. I don't recall seing any jet with bard stacks that had the blankets. If You take votes - I'd go with VFA-143 first, or the VFA-105 - a close second. The VFA-27 is also a nice option. I'm considering it for my Revell Hornet. I'm just afraid the all black spine would highlight the wrong spine on this kit.

I have been working on this one for a week or so. Got some basic work done and some seam refinement happening. While it doesn't fit too bad, it is definitely not a Tamiya kit. On to the pictures. A couple shots of the cockpit with the Red Fox set in place. Very nice detail but these are not like Quinta Decals, they are very stiff but they fit perfectly. Next job was to put in the ECS pipes. Not as easy as I hoped. I had a hard time making the holes for the resin parts square and getting them level with the surface of the kit. Put together the burner cans. Pretty close fit. When I decided to use these burners it meant I couldn't install the stabilators the way the instructions show. It has a device to connect the 2 together so they can move together I presume. Had to come up with a different plan. They will just be glued into place. Another shot of the cockpit in the fuselage. I used Tamiya Surface Primer to finish off the seams. It takes several coats and some time to dry but it sands out real smooth. After a couple days of drying, I started sanding. Another shot of the cockpit. Thats where things are right now. Still a long way to go. Geoff M Edited April 25, 2022 by Geoff M
Thadeus
Nice cockpit. It looks like it will be one of the sweet points of the kit. I'm tempted to get this same set for my pit. That, or go cheap and get a small PE fret from Eduard. I gotta say - nice work on the nose to lower fuselage seam. I remember that required some significant work to get decent. Besides that, You look like You're almost done! 😉
Geoff M
Update for today. I was able to get some work done on this one. I got most of the small bits put on the plane and masked off the canopies. Glued those in place and got a gloss cote of future on it. At that point I started the decal process. Here is where I am now. MM burnt iron metalics for the burner can and a dry bushing of chrome silver to give it a worn metalic look This is the jet I am doing. Fairly simple markings. I plan on making it look well used. Pre gloss coat. Painted on the tail flash. the main markings are on. I will get to the stencilling next. Thats all for now. ALF18
I love that cockpit. Looks very realistic. Good job on the seams - that kit is a bear to fit in places. ALF
Geoff M
I finished this up a couple days ago and I just got around to taking some pictures. First 2 pictures are after the panel line accenting. All finished with some moderate weathering. + This was a fun build. It did have some tricky spots but I did not fight it too much. I am really not a Hornet fan and don't know much about these planes but I am glad I added it to my collection. I have a F/A-18D to add to this group build. I will get to it in a few weeks. I have started a Monogram P-61 for a change. Thanks for looking. Geoff M
