Correct color wheel well RF-101C Vietnam

I see red ( with some just the inner part of the wheel well cover ) ?gray

The kitty hawk kit illustration shows all red

which one is correct

 

i am building the C&H aero conversion

Insides of the gear doors on F-101s were red. The wells were originally interior green but may have gotten some light gray overspray when the jets were camouflaged.

Here is a link to walk around photos of a retired RF-101 in SEA camo that shows the wheel wells as the undersurfaces color.  The doors are red on the inside.

Here's a link to some pics of the F-101B gear wells. This is also a museum example, and you can't always trust restorations, but the green is about the same color as photos of operational F-101s I've seen, but for some reason can't find. 

 

As to whether an individual jet's gear wells stayed green or were overpainted Camouflage Gray probably depended on how ambitious the young airman with the spray gun was feeling that day. Pick your favorite of the two colors and dare anyone who objects to show you a picture of that particular airframe at that particular time.
