Geoff M
Quick build to do something different in between F-18 Group builds. Dug out the old Monogram kit #7546 with the old Shep Paine diorama pamphlet in it. That was pretty cool in the old days. Good to get this one out of the stash. If you've built this one you know it has some fit issues with open panels and engine display. I wanted it buttoned up tight. I had saved some of the cowlings from when I built this kit before so I could do the cowlings both closed with the cooling flaps open. I got a couple quickboost engines and eduard exterior details to fix a few things. I did scratch build the intakes in the wings so they would have some depth to them. Then I spent a few days sanding and filling and figuring out how to mount the engines to the booms. In the end I think it came out ok. I used some aeromaster decals for "MoonHappy" from the 6 Night Fighter Squadron on Saipan around 1944. This plane scored the first P-61 kill of the war when it shot down a Japanese Betty bomber. I used the monogram turret but I believe at this time the turret that they were using was a fixed forward firing turret that was fired by the pilot. The second seater gunner was dispensed with. Anyway here are the pictures Comments are welcome, thanks for looking. Geoff M Edited May 15, 2022 by Geoff M
Mr.Happy
Nice ! Good to see these old Monogram kits being built and posted hear on ARC. Mr. Happy
aircommando130
I agree...love those old Monogram kits! Built one way, way back. Bought another to build then the Great Wall P-61 came out. You did a great job on yours and you seem to have got the glass to fit ok as well. And yes...those old Shep Paine diorama sheets were so cool! I still have several of them from Monograms big bomber kits. Cheers...Ron

The pressure of the clamps do cause some fractures on the left canopy by the pilot. You can see it if you blow up the picture. The rest of the glass I applied paint (model master is pretty thick) into the places where there were gaps. Thanks for your comments. Geoff M
