Who makes ADC Gray Paint?

Recommended Posts

My F-16 is close enough that I need to start assembling parts/paints for my next project (another WC-130).

I can not find ADC Gray, does anyone make this color, preferable in an air brush ready or rattle can.

Thanks

Actually, I went to my local Hobby Stores after going on Scalemates.com and Cybbermodeler was told nope, can't get those paints (Lifecolor, Mission or Xtracolor) .  Which is why I came here, but thanks for assuming.

https://www.ipmsstockholm.se/home/urbans-color-reference-charts-part-i/urbans-colour-reference-charts-federal-standard/

Gunze H-61 and Tamiya XF-66 are shown to be match for ADC grey on this link. However, the color I have seen on F-101 Voodoo seems to be slightly bluish. Voodoo color is suggested to be ADC grey. May be its the way it shows in light.

I have both H-61 and XF-66. To me , XF-66 looks like any grey while H-61 is grey but slightly green.

The IPMS Stockholm reference charts seem accurate but are losing their relevance. They don't look like they have been updated this century.  There are numerous readily available paint lines that have come out since 2000 that are not represented and several that used to be widespread are now difficult to find outside their home market.

Hataka lists separate ADC Gray (FS16473) and Voodoo Gray (FS16515) in their paint line.

Srue Bros. has the MRP color in stock: https://spruebrothers.com/mrp242-mrp-mr-paint-sky-grey-fs36473-30ml-for-airbrush-only/

MRP called it sky grey. It is slightly gloss, so you can go directly to decal after it's dried. Very easy to spray, and no thinning needed.

Sprue Brothers also has ADC in the Hataka Orange line of paint, which I like a lot.

But doesn't the first figure (3)6473 mean it's actually matt finish?

When I sprayed it, after dried it left a slight satin sheen feel to it, though not super glossy. Kind of like the tested spoon here. You would think MRP would labeled it as (2)6473.

I will second the vote for Xtracolor ADC Gray (X138). It is available in the US at KitLinx and apperas to be currently available: https://www.kitlinx.com/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=XOX138&title=ADC-Gray-FS16473

I just finished a Meng 1/72 F-106 using the Xtracolor ADC Gray and was really happy with the way the color looked. It also had the benefit of being glossy which saved a step when decaling.

.Have fun modeling!

Mike

Yes, but I can just put a gloss coat over it.
