(2022 Hornet Group Build) 1/48 F/A-18F Blue Angel #7

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys -

I decided to get going on my Hornet build.  This will be Blue Angel #7 using the Meng kit and using Furball Decals. I will be using the Eduard Seats and wheels, Flying Leathernecks Wingtip launchers as aftermarket (so far)

The issue (not really an issue as most aircraft don't have it anymore) with the Meng kit is that they do not include the non-ACS rear panel.  I decided to use the Hasegawa kit version.  It looks like it will fit with no issues.

I started with the rear cockpit coaming and scratch-built the camera that is installed.

That's all for now...

The Blues are performing in town today though Sunday. I saw their Supers for the first time, yesterday. Including the Foxtrot as it filled in as #5. Looking forward to seeing your build.

Hope you enjoyed the show!

While I'm sure there are plenty of reference photos out there on the 'net I'll throw these in, taken during the 2021 season to match the Furball sheet:

Forgot to post, but work continues on my Rhino

The flaps are a huge improvement over the Hasegawa kits.  Wingtip launchers were swapped out for the correct ones and much better-detailed ones from Flying Leathernecks.

Also must Blues aircraft "at-rest" usually have a HUD cover, so I decided to make one for my aircraft

I've filled the gun openings and sparrow openings on the side of the fuselage.

These Meng kits are really nice to put together.

Did you also fill in the chaff buckets?

Long overdue update:

Finally warmer weather here in NC allowed me to get some paint on my Rhino.  The paint is SMS BA Blue and Yellow.  The blue is lighter than what appears in the pictures, although it might be a touch dark.

Decals are from Furball and they are awesome
