peter havriluk
Painting both of these, chrome yellow upper wing, ? elsewhere. What went elsewhere, aluminum or nonmetallic light gray? And if light gray, what shade? Thanks!
Dutch
If this is the pre-WWII scheme, then I believe that the remainder of the aircraft is silver dope. Rudder is red/white vertical stripes with blue top.

JohnEB
Dutch... so When you say "silver dopw", so you mean NMF, or are you saying the metal fuselage is painted silver? At any rate, Revell released its old 1/72 kit in pre war USN (and separately USCG) markings back in the '70s & 80s. From looking at photos, the fuselage were natural metal, not gray, but I would never say never... Edited November 18, 2022 by JohnEB Add photo
WymanV
It would be painted silver for corrosion control. It was actually aluminum powder mixed into lacquer clear coat.
peter havriluk
Much obliged, folks. Thanks to all.

And yes, by "silver dope" I meant silver-aluminum paint, as in "not shiny." K/r, Dutch
peter havriluk
And I'm building the bottom kit today, hence my questions.

Can we assume you've checked out the fairly extensive discussion in the same thread you started at Hyperscale? Leaving the matter of the yellow aside, there would be two different aluminum finishes, aluminum lacquer for metal surfaces and aluminum dope for fabric areas.
peter havriluk
Not today, Seawinder, but I appreciate the heads-up.
