Ranger_Chris61
Back to 1/32 scale aircraft again this week, taking a look at Roden's L-19 Bird Dog kit.
Winnie
The front piece of the float is a rubber bumper. Looks to be an EDO float, probably the same as the one for the 185 Cessna.
JohnEB
My opinion... I doubt if the Air Force ever operated a O-1 on floats. The Army did have a few, and the aircraft were delivered with float attachment points, but I have never seen or heard of the AF having float O-1s...especially in that Vietnam color scheme and late '60s (0-prefix) serial number. My guess is the correct color scheme for a float Birddog would be an Army or National Guard aircraft in the '50s style in gloss OD. Alsi, I would think they would have used 172 floats, the 185 units would be larger (and heavier...and costlier) than necessary. Remember the gross weight of a 185 is about 1000 pounds heavier and float size is predicated on weight. Edited December 11, 2022 by JohnEB
Da SWO
AF didn't get the O-1 until Vietnam, and they were replaced by the O-2 and OV-10 before the conflict ended.
Cubs2jets
A real airplane - just not a military one. Australian registered civil O-1. C2j
