jonwinn
I found out this kit, Italeri F4U-7, had parts for the AU-1 Corsair which I have been wanting to build for a long time. It has the proper cowling and already comes with the AU-1s 5 hard points for rockets, I just need to find the appropriate decals. The first thing I did as I do with all Italeri side openers is to open it as a proper top open box a la X Acto knife and Scotch tape. Next was to remove the decals, all French subjects and add them to my decal collection. Now it's off to bathe the parts and start detail painting the cockpit. jonwinn
I have the basic black and chromate green done, now to highlight the switches and dials.
jonwinn
The cockpit is assembled.
jonwinn
The cockpit and engine are installed and the fuselage halves are closed up.
VADM Fangschleister
What a nifty find. This is a nice start and will be a nice addition to the Corsair collection. Love the hose-nosed bent-wing bird.
jonwinn
Any idea how far outside of the cowl opening the gear reduction case is? This one sticks out way to much to my eye. I think I have to alter it a bit, move the engine back.
jonwinn
It's on hold till I figure what to do. Should look more like this. Looks like I have to bust the fuselage open and move the engine quite a bit.
jonwinn
This build is terminated. I tried fixing the engine and the fuselage cracked apart from excessive force. It is relegated to the circular file. I will try it again soon as I have the same kit in a different boxing with USMC and French decals. I guess I got a bit heavy handed but I learned something, test fit, test fit, test fit, TEST FIT!!!!! A problem that has plagued me for more than 5 decades!
Spruemeister
The engine too far forward is an Italeri issue. File that away for the next one. Rick L.
