Dutch
@KursadA, I just came across this photo on the back cover of an AMC History about Tankers. Do you think that you can add the message to the tanker crew onto the tall tail sheet or possibly the B-52 general markings sheet? These black & white stripes seem to match the SIOP camo bird from ARC Light photo, from same book. Edited February 7 by Dutch
KursadA
I already caught and did the striped slipway markings that appeared in the late 1960s, but I don't think the "check the oil" markings were standard 🙂 I will add them to the general markings sheet in 1/72 though as a funny touch. Dutch
Agreed! Thank you! Do you have a number for the 1/72 general Markings sheet? Edited February 7 by Dutch
Spruemeister
I assume those marks had some reflective quality? To aid in night operations? Don’t seem to be real helpful for daytime. Rick L.

Rick the two dark spots on the inside of each refueling door that appear to be holes are actually small spot lights to assist the boomer during night / low viz IFR ops. KursadA
Mostly done - I need to do some color corrections and add a couple of small markings, and will send it to be printed next week. 18 options on this one. There is a second, all-black sheet with wing walkways and some other black markings. Also some structural details to improve the Minicraft kit. With large period-accurate unit markings and a lot of variety, the 1/72 version of this would look great on the Monogram kit. It will take some more work though, and will be coming in the next couple of months.
Drifterdon
I can't wait. I have a couple kits on the shelf ready for paint. Just need to decide which subject on this sheet to use. Thank you sir for bringing this to us.
Gator52
I have one copy of the Minicraft tall-tail kit...might need to acquire 17 more! Chris

I heard Darth Vader's voice in my head as I read what you wrote. Too funny. 😆

sierrascale
I've been out of the loop, so which are the best 1/144 early B-52 kits? Dutch? Drifter?
Dutch
Depends on how much work you want to do and how much $ you want to spend. Option 1 [simplest]. You may sacrifice a little in detail and accuracy, but have simplicity of building, not to mention cheaper. Buy the new Academy release of the Minicraft B-52D/F. Or find one of the older Minicraft B-52D/F kits. Option 2A [more difficult]. Get a Revell B-52H kit and the RetroWings B-52D conversion plus the RetroWings AGM-28 pylon with HSAB/MERs. This is way more work and about 2.5x as expensive as Option 1. Option 2B [way more difficult]. Use a Revell B-52G kit instead of the H kit and besides adding the RetroWings sets, also file off the SALT II treaty strakelets. Option 3 [Only for the insane]. Buy a block of balsa wood and x-acto #11 knife with extra blades. Start by whittling away anything that doesn't look like a tall tail BUFF. Oh, I forgot to mention 120/150/220 sandpaper and a box of Bandaids. HTH, Dutch Edited February 18 by Dutch
AD-4N
For my needs, the Minicraft/Academy early B-52 is just fine.
Ghostbase
I purchased the Academy 1/144 B-52D kit very recently and it looks to be identical to the earler Minicraft B-52D/F offering, it also includes Quails and Hound Dogs (plus stands) although they don't apply to the B-52D options that can be made from this kit which include 'Tommy's Tigator'. The kit looks good to me however on seeing the options available on the forthcoming Caracal 'Tall Tails' sheet a second kit might be a good idea 😉 Michael

Dutch
@KursadA, I remember you stated that you would release a 1/72 B-52 General Markings sheet later this year. Will you also release a separate 1/144 B-52 General Markings sheet? Kind regards, Dutch

I was in my LHS yesterday and they had the Minicraft/Academy B-52D on the shelf so I picked it up in anticipation of this sheet’s release.
