planejack777
Good Morning; I realize I’m a bit late to the party, but I recently saw the Adam Savage video regarding a collective effort to build a 1/1 scale model of the Apollo 11 hatch…..I think it was titled “Project Egress”, or something similar. Regardless, it was quite enjoyable and I was wondering if anyone had for sale a large scale working model of this hatch in say 1/6, 1/4, or 1/3 scale? I just thought that would be a fantastic project, and a great addition to a collectors display. Jack
habu2
This one? http://orbitalsurplus.com/ http://orbitalsurplus.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/ApolloCM-Hatch-5573-1024x807.jpg Price? If you have to ask......
planejack777
That is simply GORGEOUS! That’s not a model though….is it? Jack
planejack777
Ohhhhh Kaaaay, it’s a limited edition 1:1 scale replica…..I’m even afraid to ask the price. My 35 year career as a Pilot for American Airlines would require a high interest loan or maybe I can trade a B777 and enjoy it for a day before my prison sentence? habu2
There's also a company making reproductions of the hatch window in different scales (and materials): https://www.concordaerospace.com/products/apollo-command-module-hatch-window
planejack777
Thank you, I think I saw a 3D printed hatch in either 1/4, or 1/3 scale somewhere too….just can’t recall where.
niart17
If I recall correctly, the files are available for free download, or at least they were directly from the Smithsonian. I think I downloaded all of them somewhere.
planejack777
Again….thanks to all who reply. I did not know that these files were/are available. Unfortunately, I do not have a 3D printer….”Shapeways” is a printing service but very, very expensive.

aircommando130
WOW! That is so cool! My dad worked on the Lunar Module and he took us to the Cape to watch Apollo 9-11 launch. Jack King...the voice of Apollo would approve! Apollo 8 was currently in orbit in 1968! Cheers...Ron

planejack777
Are either still available (Or were they ever) for sale? I’d think the 1/2 scale would afford the greater detailing of the original. Thank you very much for showing….it looks incredibly good, in fact the picture outside I had to look at closely to determine it’s scale….fabulous! Jack
planejack777
May I ask…..will, or can you produce another 1/2 scale one for me? Jack

planejack777
That’s fantastic….please keep me posted!! I’m curious about the finishing post printing of your pieces…do you use SLA type methods? Also, if I may ask, your painting and treatment of parts is outstanding….I’d be interested in knowing products or techniques used….unless you offer these services for extra?
