midnightprowler
The instructions say to paint this part interior green. Is that correct? Edited December 27, 2022 by midnightprowler
habu2
It would be helpful to know what "this part" is.....
midnightprowler
I don't know. I'm thinking someone with more familiarity with the aircraft would know. It goes behind the seat. Edited December 28, 2022 by midnightprowler
Air Pirate
I believe it's the main fuel tank, "gunfire protected". It was covered with a layer of "Super Flexit". See page 49 of Aircraft Pictorial #5, P-40 Warhawk, by Dana Bell (Classic Warships Publishing, May 2013). The photos are black and white, but my guess is semi-gloss rubbery black, with chromate yellow or interior green straps. The filler neck at the top lined up with the forward filler cap on the a/c port side. A smaller drum shaped oil tank was mounted behind it, it's filler neck aligning with the aft filler cap. Perhaps Mr. Bell will see this and clarify the situation.
okthree
When I built my Flying Tiger P-40 I painted mine green based on these color pictures of production line pre US involvement in WWII. If you scroll another 1/3 of the way down there is a photo where they are painting fuel tanks green. https://www.flickr.com/photos/35963591@N00/albums/72157622864527612/

JohnEB
A minor nitpick about today's kits... I certainly understand the need to make universal language instruction sheets....after all, kits are sold all over the world. But the part number given doesn't tell you what the heck the part actually is...which would often help a builder know how to paint it.

Spruemeister
I did mine in black. Right or wrong, it’s barely visible after installation. Rick L.
