Dave Williams
When did the USMC AH-1Ws discontinue use of TOW and replace them with Hellfire? Trying to figure a load out for the 2000 - 2002 era. TIA.
Sarathi S.
They phased TOW out from airborne use in 2006. For 2000-2002 you're good with a mixed load, just keep the TOW tubes on the left side of the aircraft. They wouldn't mount TOW on the right side due to the potential of the wires getting caught in the tail rotor.
Dave Williams
Thanks! Hellfire on both sides and no TOW would be OK too, right?

Yep, HF on both outboard stations is fine. As a matter of fact, in Iraq in ‘03, it was not uncommon for us to drop TOW launchers off an aircraft if the system was degraded or inoperable and load HFs instead. Inboard we’d have either two LAU-68s, or a LAU-68 and a LAU-61. Semper Fly, Ski
