lgl007
Hi all, So I'm building up a Hasegawa 1/48 VF-32 F-14B Swordsman CAG bird... Now, instructions call for FS35237 for the top surfaces of the F-14 and FS36320 for the side and even lighter on the bottom. QUESTIONS: I purchased Vallejo Model Air 71.114 which is supposed to be FS35237 for the top surfaces of the F-14... gosh that's an awefully dark blue gray color. Were late build F-14's that dark? Seems in reference photos the jets are more on the light gray side then the dark blue gray side... Likewise the side surfaces Vallejoj 71.120 which is FS 36320 is quite a dark gray as well... should i thin these with white to take the edge off the darkness? The CAG bird I'm doing was from Oct 2004/April 2005... so pretty much at the end of the F-14's life cycle. Is there perhaps a better choice of colors for the late F-14B's? Any help to get a more accurate look would be most appreciated! Thanks folks. -Greg Edited March 20, 2023 by lgl007

lgl007
Hi Shawn... I've never built a hornet before so I don't have a frame of reference. Are you saying that that FS colors (as dark as they are) should be used as is, or is there a better way to replicate the shades of gray as we see them in photos? -Greg
BillS
You might give Mr Color a try. They have all of the FS colors you need and they are a really nice match.
Tony Oliver
Yes I found all the vallejo tps greys too dark. so used them one shade lighter. as in use the dark ghost as the blue grey and light ghost as dark ghost. then for light ghost i used what they sell as light grey 36495.
