1/144 KC-135A, Barksdale AFB, 1991

Recommended Posts

Decals are a mix of custom, kit, spares box, and Caracal 144004 & 144016 (Thanks to Dutch for providing the 2 BMW emblem from his Caracal KC-10 sheet!)

Main improvements were to notch the aft end of the ruddervators where they meet the boom, trimming off the protruding boom nozzle and drilling out the end of the boom, and filling the recessed detail on the pilot director lights and replacing with Caracal decals.

I was almost done when I found an additional reference photo showing a Shamu-painted nose cowl on the #1 engine...since I couldn't pass up this distinguishing feature, I popped that part off and repainted it.  Of note, 64-14836 was recently converted to a WC-135R Constant Phoenix and delivered to the 55th Wing at Offutt AFB last year.

By the way, Minicraft -135s need a lot of nose weight!

Thank you much; Tom this one makes five complete: 4x A/Qs in various Barksdale markings, and the Castle R-model.

Dutch, since a majority of the decals are from 144004, I think you’ve got a point!

My B-52G with your custom markings was 90% Caracal CD144005, so I lead off the Gallery with it. Go Ahead!
