A-10 LOADER
A MC-130E and a AC-130J are two totally different animals. Just Google "MC-130E images" and compare them to "AC-130J images" and, you'll see what I mean. Also timeframe will have a lot to do with your build as well, certain antennas may have been added or removed so, pay attention to your references. Steve
Hajo L.
No worries, I think I know what I´m doing. 😉 What I meant was that I will use the Zvesda kit to practice - I have built 5 or 6 Italeri Hercs, and two AMT Hercs, and one Esci and one Airfix. This will be my first Zvesda Herc and many things are default, especially internal parts, gear and so on. At least these parts will be the sam ewhen I do my MC-130E with a Zvesda kit. I plan to start an extra MC-130E thread to gather all knowledge and intel concerning the Combat Talon I. I already have a couple of pictures and documents, but there is still plenty of personal knowledge here on ARC that I would love to learn from. HAJO
A-10 LOADER
Ok gotcha, now I understand. Steve
A-10 LOADER
We had two warmer days late last week which enabled me to get a start on the display base for the Gunship. I managed to get the stain applied and the first couple coats of clear sprayed on. Next step will be a sanding with 320 and more clear coats, when the weather cooperates. The taped-off areas are where the two part epoxy will go to attach my two plaques. Steve
HERC164
Steve, Glad to hear you got some good weather to work on the display base. Look forward to seeing it finished, of course if your weather is like the weather here it may take until July to get enough good days. Great seeing your work. Ty Thanks Ty, the weather has been all over the place. I milled up the trim pieces for the base, these will be primed, sanded and, finished in a satin black. The dado is for the acrylic cover. Boomstick
Holy cow! Some incredible attention to detail and this WIP is exactly what I was looking for. My son will be working on these soon when they switch over and moving to Hurlburt Field. I was going to build one for him using this kit and wow, I don't even need to go looking for reference material. It's all right here. Great job.
Boomstick
You probably could have used this sooner, but, just in case.

Tell your son, thanks for his service. I have that pic saved in my AC-J reference folder. I'm not so sure it's a flight sim pic though ? I've never seen that white dome over the top escape hatch, there's a small white antenna sticking out horizontally on the rear fuselage, just above the port side wing that I've not seen either. Something just looks off IMO. Looking forward to seeing your build. Steve
Dutch
Steve, I think that the white dome in the hatch is a SATCOM plug and play antennae. Could be used on either front, middle, or rear escape hatch. You just replace the whole hatch and plug the wires in somewhere onboard or to a laptop. The photo does look like a screen grab from a sim. HTH, Dutch
utley
Having the majority of flight simulators on the market, I can tell you that there arent that many -if any- KC135 (or any tankers other than the KC-130) models that fly along with C-130, gunships or otherwise. Neither one of them are popular enough to warrant that kind of detail. There IS one being produced for DCS though, but that isnt it. Not saying that neither one of them are in simulators, but nobody that I know of wants to fly a tanker in a military sim...but would fly a highly detailed PMDG 757 as a pax aircraft. Wouldnt be in MSFS though, so those graphics are beyond what we have now. That pic is real. Edited May 5 by utley
Dutch
Apparently, the Marines use a slightly different version, See article here. The Hatch-Mounted Satellite Communication Antenna System (HMSAS) provides secure voice, tactical classified network access, common tactical picture, secure chat and streaming intelligence and reconnaissance video for commanders in the field. And here is and advert for a different version.
aircommando130
That clear dome is the "bubble" that goes in the overhead hatch. We put them in the MC when we flew air intercepts against the F-15's at Kadena or the Korean F-4's. Gave a great view to scan for threats. The hatch mounted comm antenna has a swept back satellite antenna on it and the cables run back into the cargo compartment and plug in to the boxes on the right side. It's used for some specialized equipment that we carried extra crewmembers for. Cheers...Ron

A-10 LOADER
Managed to get a little time between the bathroom makeover, to get the trim on the base and masked off ready for primer/paint. The weather here for the next week is rain and humid so, maybe next week I can get something done on it. I'm having a model meeting here at the house June 1st and want to get the display finished, except for the cover, by then. Steve Edited May 15 by A-10 LOADER
A-10 LOADER
Wrapped up the display base this morning, finally. Glad to have this project finished, except for the acrylic cover which I need to do yet. I'll work on getting final photos with the aircraft and post them in "The Display Case." Steve
ST0RM
Great job on the base. Wraps up the project really well. Looking forward to seeing the Herk in place.
