Jonathan Smith
Just released today, I created this set to address some issues with Hasegawa's otherwise beautiful 1/48th scale Skyhawks. Well the late one's that is. Details: Kit parts lack detail and nosewheel is molded solid with forward landing gear giving an unrealistic look and complicating painting between tire and metal components. This set enhances realism and eases painting by not requiring paint masks to get a good demarcation between what would be white painted metal parts and rubber components in addition to adding detail and removing the chunky plastic look of the foward landing gear. Features of replacement set are has follows: -Separate nose wheel fork (2x supplied in case of Ooppsies) -Fine detail represented in the form of two tread types, one not released in scale before... detail on tire/ bolt pattern, studs and bolts, filler valve on both main and nosewheel rims. -Deep but not overdone tread detail that will take washes well. -Separate rims and wheels so painting with no masking is required. -Chamfered point at base of support of tires carrier permitting wedging blade to cut tires parts cleanly away from carrier base. -Petite attachment points means virtually no sanding required to remove parts from carrier base. -Near friction /slip fit between rim inserts and tires components. -Small weighted flats placed at on bottom of tires. -Accuracy like no other Recommended for experienced professional modelers only. -Small drill set required. -Requires some modification of kit parts. (Molded on kit plastic fork needs to be cleanly cut free flush and a 0.037"-0.040" hole need to be partially drilled into deep enough where part was removed to receive/glue stub molded on new fork. -Warning: Rod support is built between forks that needs to be cut away but not completely flush at both ends. Study this area. Two knubs are present on both ends that are to not be removed. These are toleranced to slip into the center holes on the nosewheel rim. Careful Limited spreading of forks is required to slip tire/rim assembly. All should piece together well. Image above with nosewheel load bearing test is done without any glue anywhere proving tolerances are appropriate and assembly is doable. Care with scalpel blade and dust mask is required. Tested and all was assembled without sanding using only a number #11 blade. Chris the cabbie
That looks quite sweet! Please consider doing this in 1/72 and listing them on eBay will get a strong reaction as the Fujimi kits could really use this set! Regards, Chris the cabbie
