HASEGAWA F-86 MK 6 1/48 WITH KASL SLATS/FLAPS, VERLINDEN GUN BAYS, B&B RESIN DESIGN (AMS) SUGAR SCOOPS AND AIRES SEAT.

Happy Holidays everyone...

My next project will be the Hasegawa F-86 in foreign colors such as Luftwaffe or Canadian. I realized upon my research that export models differ in fuselage and wings configurations. It is NOT as simple as slapping on decals and call it at that. I have been getting lots of help on what modifications are needed for export models like Mk 1-6. I am not a scratch builder so all I can muster is using some conversion sets. If too much scratch building is needed then I just go ahead with the Korean war version and call at that. Foreign markings are just way too cool to pass up however. Dai

Greetings,

Just ordered some decals from Canada. The resin sets are from Taiwan so it will be a month before I get them. In the mean time I will prepare the kit like preparing the gun bays, slats and flaps. Dai

Greetings,

Started building today. I got the Legend Production detail set but there are 2 right gun bays rather than one left and one right 😞 Just email the seller of the problem. Dai

I believe these are the MRP colors

RAL 6014 Gelboliv - MRP 208

RAL 7012 Basaltgrau- MRP 069

RAL 7001 MRP 065

I also believe  Hateka and AK have them too

The German and RCAF use the same colors? It looks like so on the illustrations. Dai

I think Canadair Mk5s were painted in RAF BS colours (Dk grn/Dk Sea Grey ov PRU blue) initially in Europe, but later at the Factory, Mk6s were delivered in nat. metal and later painted in Germany with the RAL colours.

Do you have the call out for the model paints? Thanks Dai

Pulling up a chair for this one... looks to be another great incoming build.  Looking forward to it Dai 🙂

Thanks but had some set backs over the weekend. The Legend Production set gave me 2 right gun bays rather than left and right (I want the left bay). Then the EB seller sent me the kit that did not include the resin wing tips ( seen on EB listing photos) in which that I am after. So I cannot start until I get these items. Dai

Dai, looking forward to your build!  The F-86 is, without doubt, my favorite airplane EVER (well, along with the P-38), yet I haven't built one yet.  I have the Eduard 'Ultimate Sabre' kit with some aftermarket additions (uses Hasgawa plastic), but I haven't started it  yet...perhaps this thread will be my motivation!  It is my fervent wish that someday soon, one of  the big  manufacturers will do a truly 'ultimate' new tooled 1/48 F-86, with truly state of the art details and molding.

I bought some more items and see which offers the best details. The CMK cockpit set, the Aires cockpit set and CMK gun bays set. I have worked with CMK before and I really like the details. Dai

Hi all,

I tried the Verlinden gun bay and the fit is marginal. Verlinden was the king of update sets in the 80s and 90's. I worked with Verlinden sets before and the fit is average at best. I am still waiting for the Jaguar and CMK gun bay sets to see if they fit better. Dai

Greetings friends,

The Jaguard set has arrived. Although the box says gun bay and flaps, there is much more. There are complete control surfaces minus the slats, cockpit tub but without the seat or instrument panels. The fit is OK but the details are not as sharp as the Verlinden set. I am still waiting for the CMK gun bay/cockpit set and I think that I will probably use. I have used CMK in the past and I really like their sharp details. Dai

Really looking forward to seeing your Sabres Dai! The Hasegawa kit is still a goodie after all these years. I've been converting one in my inventory into an Aussie CAC Sabre with the High Planes Kit. Oof, that conversion set is pretty accurate, but the plastic quality was... Something else. Even though they give you full fuselage halves, I cut off the rear section of the High Planes fuselage behind the airbrakes and just adapted the Hasegawa rear section to the rest of the High Planes fuselage halves. Its still sort of on hold in my stash but I should bust it out again someday to finish it up. It'll be cool to see your Sabres with their gun bays all opened up!

Happy Holidays everyone,

Still waiting for the CMK cockpit/gun bay combo kit, KASL slats kit, Red Roo slats kit to arrive. I tried in the CMK gun bay kit and this is what I find. The right and left large gun bays cannot be used as they are meant to be assembled with the CMK cockpit tub. Using the bays alone will result in huge gap on top of the bay. I think CMK seperates the bays from the cockpit tub and sells as a seperate gun bay set but that would not work as the bays need the cockpit tub to seal the gaps. I tried the Verlinden lower bay and it fits OK. The CMK lower bay ends up with a gap in the middle that you have to fill but a little more detailed. The KASL flaps are beautiful and very detailed.
