Greetings,

Started painting the top colors. The left side does not concide the pattern on the Top Notch diagram but I have to go by the photo of the actual plane. The second is the color of the slat base. Could be grey rather than silver. Once the lower is painted then the wing tips will be painted yellow. Dai

Greetings,

Will need to correct some areas tonight and looking at the photo, I am not sure if it has the anti glare black panel as on the illustration. Dai

Hello all,

One thing I learn while doing research on the camo schemess is that there no 2 planes with exact camo patterns. They may look familiar in shape and sizes but not identical like British WW2 planes. This led me to believe the paint shop is given a master illustration then it is up to the painter to make it as close as possible. Dai

Hi all,

Refined some areas to match the photo.  The demarcation lines are soft but barely. There is no standardization of the camo patterns. The pattern is similar but varies in sizes. To do away with all this I suggest considering NMF. I still need to paint the belly silver grey RAL 7001 and the wing tips yellow. Looking at photos, the Korean war era Sabre jets had bare metal slat base. A photo of Luftwaffe 86 in museum has gray base instead. Wonder which one is applicable to my build?  Dai

Hi all,

Some more corrections on the right side camo and painted the slats. Still have to paint the belly and wing tips yellow. Since I was advised the slats on MK 6 do not extend far like the A/E version I will need to shorten the tabs to bring the slats closer to the leading edge. Dai

Hello all,

Started painting the underside tonight. There are some areas that the demarcation lines are too sharp and need to be toned down. These are soft but barely. Dai

Hi everyone,

Continue with the painting. I am still thinking on how to paint the nose with black and thin white outline. I wish decals are provided for this, Dai

Greetings,

Working on the gun bay tonight. I use the Verlinden guns and Legend ammunition belts as the latter is better detailed and more scale. Also removed the black anti glare as very few camo planes have them. The black panels were seen exclusively on all NMF Luftwaffe Sabres. I cannot say for sure but the photo does not show the black panel. Dai

Hello everyone,

I had to thin the base of the guns to make them sit deeper into the bay. The camo scheme on the photo and the pattern on the Top Notch illustration does not match so besides the left side in which it is correct due to the photo reference, the rest is speculative although I follow the illustration as best as I can. Hi all,

Clear coated, wash and ready for decaling. I do the wash before decaling then carefully apply the wash over the decals at later stage. This way I do not risk damaging the decals if I were do the wash after they are applied. Decals can be very fragile and I want to minimize handling the model as much as possible. Dai

Hi,

I view some YT footages and I believe Eagle Strike illustration is the most accurate. You can see on the real photo here. Will need to correct the scheme prior to decaling. Dai

Greetings,

Corrected some areas of the camo pattern. If you do this particular pattern, the illustration by Eagle Strike I believe is the most accurate. I hope the decals won't let me down. Dai

Hi all,

Good site on Luftwaffe F86 during service. Dai

Excellent site if you are in NMF finish.  Too bad there was no picture of JA-120 I was modelling. The stenciling is quite extensive like the Phantoms. Not sure if the decal sheets of Luftwaffe planes feature this or not. Dai

Howdy,

I know Airfix puts out a F-86 in 1/48 scale but I did not know the model sports weapons and ammunition bays on BOTH sides as well as deployed slats !!! However poor surface details, poor fit and inaccuracy steer many modelers away from this kit.  The panel lines are quite heavy making the model feels like clunky and has the diecast look. Had I known I may have went ahead with this kit rather than doing extensive modifications like I am doing now. Dai
