@Sabrejet why don’t you start a model kit manufacturing company, then you can do an F-86H for us?

I assume you haven't read the thread, or understand my inputs in various F-86 kits, aftermarket and decal sheets to date...

Yes, I have read the thread.  I appreciate what you’ve done.  But that has nothing to do with the market viability of an F-86H kit. If it’s such a great idea, why has no one done it?  You appear to believe it’s a sure-fire winner.  My suggestion is, start your own model company and find out.  I’d be  elated to be proven wrong on this.

Back to the F-86A. Please!   We have all waited for this model for years and Duncan is to be commended for all his contributions and hard work getting a correct kit of this version to market.  I have worked with Duncan on the  restoration on the F-86L at the MAPS Museum, and there is NOBODY better suited to supply correct information on the F-86. Period.  His observations about pre-Korean war markings is spot on- there are many excellent early schemes that us modelers will love to have.  Decal manufacturers release multiple schemes per sheet.  No reason there cannot be both pre- Korean and Korean markings on each sheet.   And hopefully many sheets!

Now the icing on the cake for me will be markings for this All Weather Flying Division F-86A

It was suggested, believe me! I think that some of these schemes are seen as too 'niche', even for enterprising manufacturers. It's a shame, because I just love a great colour scheme no matter where it's from or who flew it. It'll probably have to wait for the aftermarket to catch it. 🤔

Not able to crack open any of my reference books that are at home whilst I am at work, but just out of curiosity, what kind of markings would we be able to depict an F-86A in? I ask because a google search tends to bring up Sabres of all variants and not specifically an A.

I dig how the top wings are molded as one part with a connecting inner-brace. It'll help with keeping proper dihedral when putting the wings together. Surface detail looks nice and fine, yet crisp. One thing that sort of spoiled me on the the Airfix Sabre are those trench-like panel lines, especially when you compare them to the Hasegawa Sabre, or the Monogram/Academy Sabre Dog.

I actually didn't know about the issue with the Hasegawa kit's cross-section. Its a really subtle one but I'm still pushing through with my ROCAF Sabre and my Avon conversion. I'm pretty forgiving of very subtle shape issues, like the slight bulge missing in most F-4 kits around the cockpit section of the fuselage. I think that issue is more noticeable if you build the Phantom with the canopy locked down. If you like building your Phantoms with the canopies lifted up it doesn't stick out as much.

As long as something isn't bad as Kitty Hawk's screw-up with the Banshee I'm ok!

I always liked how the early A model Sabres looked with those black and white bands, moreso than the yellow ones. They remind me of D-Day bars.

Anyways, I'm really going to dig this kit! I just need to research what A model markings I want to tackle.

And here's a suggestion for markings.  No one has ever made markings for this plane:

4th FIG has been covered reasonably well in kits/aftermarket, but there are entire F-86A squadrons that have never been covered! (15th FIS, 469th FIS etc). There are MANY colour schemes to choose from and I suspect those early-war Korean schemes will be dealt with pretty quickly. My aim will be to try and get the 'meanwhile, back at home' USAF colour schemes done.

Pre-war 4th FIG markings looked pretty sporty with the squadron badge and large flaming arrow on the fuselage. I built this one with the Cutting Edge conversion and I’d love to be able to replace it with a better one.

Is a good close-up available of the armored V windscreen?  That is the first and foremost distinguishing feature of the A & early E Sabre.  Too bad the early gun blast panels were not on the frames, but I an definitely in for a couple.

Both types of blast panels are in the kit.

Must be my tired old eyes, I looked, but only on my phone.  This is going to be a must have kit for me! 👍🏻

Hi everyone.

Somewhere around four in the morning before getting ready for a trip to Moson I posted those sprue photos above to wet the appetite of anyone going for the weekend show.

Spent the day from 7.30 till almost 7PM at the event. Have to say that it was essential to post the map and the exact location of Clear Prop other ways it would have been almost impossible to find them! Huge crowd at the show and more than 3000 kits entered into the competition! It was a long day but now back at home. Just a short first impression.

Had a close look at the sprues, spent a lot of time at the stand, took few photos and had a very long conversation with the Clear Prop team about the kit!

Hope to have some photos posted tomorrow.

Actually there are 3 gun blast door versions in the kit! Surface details look very nice and fine! Some eye catching details here and there. But of course it was not possible to connect up parts since they were all on sprues.

More soon. Sorry but need a little sleep after a very long day!

Best regards

Gabor

There are two blast panel versions in the kit (only two on the actual aircraft): there are in fact five parts per 'open' blast panel: three gun muzzles, the external panel and a backing piece.

Those are very clear pics of the V windscreen.  I have a few from when I visited Duxford a few years ago.  The V windscreen is difficult to scratch, I tried my best to execute one, (See the 6th post in this Thread).  It was my first attempt, and I have a better idea now, but with this release I should not have to scratch one.  The CE conversion had a Resin Cast V-Windscreen that was poorly executed in my opinion, so a scratched one was necessary.  I hope this new kit V Windscreen is as good as the frames seem to be.  I may be able to adapt its windscreen to my built Hasegawa modded A-5.

As promised last night, for those who did not have a chance to see the new Clear Prop 48th scale F-86A sprues here is a little sneak preview that I have made yesterday. The lights were not the best at the stand, but hope something is visible of the kit and its details.

Everyone has opinions, but here you have a chance to form your own by looking at the photos. Have fun!

Additional information was that the kit will be out in June, so it is not so far away, little more than a month and there should be four boxings of the kit with different markings. Same as other Clear Prop kits.

Thanks to Clear Prop at the stand for allowing me to take some photos of the kit!

More soon.

Best regards

Gabor

I've had a chance to put the seat together today: looks great! Note that this is with minimal clean-up so any rough edges are mine.

Would you know if CP! are doing their own 3D print detail sets for their kit?
