LOL. I see the inaccurate Cutting Edge F-86A conversion set on a popular auction site currently for $180 "Buy it Now". Gotta love a hopeless optimist. 🙂

Ha! I built one way back when Dave was still in business. Not great but it was the only game in town back then. I will happily replace it with the new kit.

I guess they did their best but the speed brake wells are wrong for an F-86A.

My biggest complaint was the windscreen. I never thought the shape of the center section was quite right. They also had to send me two extras before they sent one that was properly cured so it wasn’t sticky and didn’t have air bubbles.

You had something to criticise and were NOT blacklisted??? Wow!

I mean I generally loved their products, especially the subject matter, but their business conduct was less than questionable, both with customers and their own team...

100% correct on the screen; it is a vee-shape, but nowhere near as pronounced as they modelled it. Luckily Clear Prop! aced that part.

Nah, I still ended up on it. Just not for the F-86. 😄

Even Dave's friends eventually ended up on his blacklist, after I moved to Colorado he stopped taking my calls.....

This is all news to me: I hadn't realised all this stuff was going on. I was probably blacklisted in absentia anyway since I was critical of the windshield and speed brake inaccuracies on the Cutting Edge conversion set. Oops. And I never even knew.

There was a guy named Potts who was a Navy pilot.  He supplied a lot of stuff to Dave.  I did a lot of his bomb and missile patterns.

When Potts retired he cut him off basically saying:  Cut him off, Potts is retiring and can't give us anything else.

Real prince of a guy...

Classy. I'm glad I avoided this.

I had Sunday breakfast with Dave for several years.   We'd talk about his projects, future releases and patterns I could help him with.

When I moved to Colorado, he stopped taking my calls.

As I couldn't help him anymore...

As much as we all like to dislike Dave Klaus, I think we can all agree that this new Sabre is very much one to like. I just placed my order for one with all of the goodies. I'm more of a Canadair Sabre 5/6 kinda modeler but this one looks too good to pass by. Might do a side-by-side build of this with a Hasegawa F-40 built up as the Vintage Wings Hawk One Sabre (Canadair Mk.5 23314, restored with F-40 wing).

Cheers,

John

My 2 kits arrived today in Ohio-  All I can say is wow, and a big thank you to Duncan and Clear Prop for helping to make an accurate rendition of this historic aircraft possible!  2127985487_F-86Akits.thumb.jpg.6200abb038da7703ad87709129230c46.jpg

Well now all you've got to do is build them! I hope you enjoy 🙂

Now where is my 1/72 scale version?

I'm also REALLy looking forward to those kits!

In 1/48 -- it's too bad that Clear Prop didn't put all the wing parts on one (or two)  sprues ... and made those available for ordering separately. Lots of applications to existing kits including the D, E, Early F, and Canadian Sabres.  In 1/72 -- maybe a different sprue arrangement? (but I doubt it).

How great would it be if Clear Prop offered Overtrees???
