One you might consider is F-86A 49-1319 flown by Capt. James Jabara on 20 May 1951 shooting down his fifth and sixth MiG-15s to become America's first "jet ace." This would have had the early black-and-white stripes, not the later black-bordered yellow bands.

Yeah, they never put that one American flag on the side of his aircraft for shooting down his own wingman.

I’d be all over a sheet with the black and white ID bands. I have the old Cutting edge sheet, but I’ve had mixed results recently using their now old decals. Plus, I’m lazy and don’t want to have to paint the underlying white bits! 😜

Not sure how far along you are on this, but here's an interesting early A that has just recently been added to the archives here.

Detroit 1951 airshow and races.  There are several other Eglin Field aircraft in attendance with the Air Proving Ground Shield as markings.  This F-86A has the gun ports removed.  I have been digging on the APG shield where I can and still haven't produced a color example.  Lots of renaming and shifting of commands around this era and that complicates things. Here's a closeup of the emblem on an F-84 at the same show.

I think this leads me to believe it is on both sides of the fuselage.

One of several Eglin F-86As that trialled drop tanks with refuelling probes. Eglin APG shield is, IIRC blue and yellow.

One of which was also at the same Detroit show.  Bendix winner FU-247 at far left.

So what color is the nose band on 583?
