SU-35S Great Wall Hobby 1/48 (Flanker E)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. For my first time on ARC I thought I would present my latest creation: the Su-35S (Flanker E) - 1/48 G.W.H.
A very long and complex creation, also aggravated by a defect in the molding of the two semi-fuselases which I had to remedy with a lot of patience. The finishing of the engines as well as the missile/bomb pylons deserve a separate discussion since the time they took away is practically equivalent to that required for everything else.
It's the first jet I've built after 30 years, I hope it meets your approval. A greeting.
Daniel

Hi Dan, welcome to ArcAir!  You’ve posted an absolutely fabulous build!  I have the same kit, as yet unbuilt, but I don’t think mine will even come close to as fantastic as yours!  Looking forward to other airplanes you build, for sure!!

Hi Curt.

You are really too kind. However I really appreciate your opinion. There is absolutely no reason why your Flanker could be any different or worse than mine. I myself have taken a lot of inspiration from many masters. I will definitely post again. And if you have any questions about the kit, I'm here (across the ocean, but featured here on ARC...😄).

Now I'm going back to "WW2" with a couple of P-47s, a Razorback and a Bubbletop. Let's see how many months it will take me.

Hey Dan, I have a question for you. What kits are you going to use for your P-47s?  I have the Tamiya Razorback and Bubbletop kits, and I recently got the new Mini Art P-47D-25RE Bubbletop.  As far as I know, Mini Art does not yet make a Razorback, but I'd guess they will be making one down the road.  Just curious about which kits you'll be using.  I've got a Tamiya Bubbletop about 60% completed, and that  kit deserves all the praise it gets in terms of fit and engineering.  No effort at all to get perfect fit.  I'm guessing the Mini Art kits don't have quite perfect fit of Tamiya, but their detail is astounding.  I'm sure the final product, in your hands, will be spectacular, regardless whose kit you use!

Hi Curt, let me start by saying that after long and thoughtful doubts on how to "uniform" my collection (don't laugh at this) I have come to the conclusion of definitively adopting the 1/32 scale for the WW2 planes, the 1/48 scale for the modern jets as well as helicopters. As you may have already understood, I like large models, where the details can be enhanced and enhanced again.
That said, my two P-47s will be in 1/32 scale and the two boxes in my hands are from Trumpeter..
I am the first Tamiya fan but, at least here in Europe (I am writing to you from Italy) the only presence of this plane in 1/32 is by Trumpeter. If Tamiya came out in this scale on the Thunderbolt, I think I wouldn't let a day go by before buying it. Mini Art is following a very virtuous path but, once again, we are in 1/48

Dan, thanks for the very quick reply.  I certainly understand wanting to make your collection a certain way.  I've settled on 1/48 for airplanes and 1/35 for tanks and other AFVs.  The only exception to this are a few 1/35 helicopters (a Kitty Hawk Blackhawk and an Academy AH-1Z).  That said, I don't have the room to display the many, many, many as yet unbuild models which I have in my collection.  Not sure how it's going to work out! 🙃
