AD-4N
Finished painting the nose cone, anti-glare shield and two thin coats of clear Tamiya X-22 thinned with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner. Now ready for the Caracal decals.

Not certain. I rummaged around in my Cut-offs of K&S Metals until I found the tube I needed. I will measure tonight. I bought from Amazon K&S 3408 Metal Cut-Offs, Assortment of Brass, Copper, Aluminum, & Stainless Steel. It has been an invaluable source of metal whatnots.
AD-4N
Now to my favorite part of modeling, decals. I can report the Xtracolor True Blue X152 is an exact match for Caracal's KC-10 cheatline. If you are building a delivery KC-10, go grab this paint. (I am also going to use it on my Sword/Caracal 1/72 T-39.) I cut the cheatline into sections, since long cheatlines and I do not agree. I learned from many years of doing 1/144 airliners to cut cheatline decals into more manageable sections to ensure straight lines.

AD-4N
Before and after. Adding some doors and whatnot from Caracal. The port cargo door came from the 26Decals DC-10/MD-11 waterslide detail sheet. Don't know who prints them for 26Decals but they are THIN. I had a few colorful moments when a corner folded on itself. I ensured tons of water was in position for the cargo door placement, but it took a bit of coaxing to make it all work. Looks great in the end.
AV O
Hi, Beware to the U.S. AIR FORCE title and Cargo door position. It is strange and puzzling to see the door overlapping the structure line and so close to Door #2. Here is a picture on which you can zoom in to see where it sits. http://www.flight-manuals-online.com/product/mcdonnell-douglas-kc-10-extender/ The title must be aligned with the top of the doors which will enable you to move it a tad forward. It might as well be too large. Edited June 12 by AV O
AD-4N
Thanks sincerely. I see what you’re getting at. For door #2 I relied on where it Eastern Express/AMP engraved the door. A mistake, clearly. 😀 But that ship has sailed. Those decals are bedded down and are not going anywhere. But I do thank you for your help and knowledge.

Been working on it off and on since April. Bit of a struggle at times, but I like it. Correct, not always a fan of nose art. I figured at one point it didn’t have it. I may revisit the nose art later. Edited July 21 by AD-4N

Again, really nice job on a challenging kit. Chris
Dutch
Beautiful work. I appreciate your practical methods of improving the kit's most obvious flaws. A solid performance! Love the scheme and love the tarmac. That also deserves a separate 'How to..." article. Now I am in search of Xtracolor X152 True Blue. I think I have a few tins of X302 KLM Lt Blue, but no where close. Kind regards, Dutch Edited July 22 by Dutch
AD-4N
The tarmac is simplicity itself. I created this back in the late 1980s at Fort Huachuca and has travelled to Tokyo, Virgina and now Utah. a. Glue white poster board with a thick piece of wood with liberal amounts of white glue. b. Add some green grass mat (the kind from HO scale model). I put mine in the corner. c. Use Tamiya tape to mark off white stripes. d. Spray 50 shades of gray randomly all over. I used every gray imaginable. e. Use Tamiya tape to mark off yellow lines. f. Using a thin brush, paint black sealer in squares over previously drawn pencils lines. These are random and completely up to my imagination. g. Weather with oils. h. Sand down lightly with 1000 grit to make it more weathered and uniform. I use this for all aircraft models 1/48 to 1/144. It probably is not to scale for 1/144, but I have zero complaints. I just want something to shoot aircraft model photos on instead of a table top.

That has to be one big ole board. Sure looks good for 1/144 purposes.
