I'm considering having this F-104 Lockheed Starfighter logo laser-cut in acrylic sheet, to hang on the wall.

Here are two sources for stickers and patches:

https://www.amazon.com/STARFIGHTER-Emblem-Lockheed-Canadair-Alenia-MBB-Mitsubishi-SABCA-Fokker-Bumper-Sticker/dp/B084DBQ6MX

https://squadronnostalgia.com/product/lockheed-f-104-starfighter-patch-with-hook-and-loop-officially-licensed-3-5/

But I'm wondering whether it's an 'original' logo, or was it developed after the act? I cannot find any reference of it in my 15+ F-104 books. Does anyone remember it from way past?

It's an origional logo from Lockheed....I have the patch my dad wore on his flight suit when he was stationed

at Edwards AFB in the late 50's early 60's. There was no mistake it was a 104 in the pattern with the J-70 howl.

Cheers...Ron

Ron, many thanks, that completely answers my question!

Love the J79 howl too.. I lived near Volkel AFB in the Netherlands, with three squadrons of 104s, will never forget them!

I’ve only ever seen that patch worn by ADC F-104A pilots.  Most of them say “F-104A” whereas modern reproductions generally say “F-104”.

Different variations, ADC and TAC…

Rich, what a fantastic reply! Thanks for the time spent to answer my question. The project is 'go' now!

Illu, thanks for pointing that out. I will probably go for the generic 'F-104' version.

My father attended a F-104 school in Burbank in 1958. He returned with a few Lockheed color promo photos (a P2V-7 was in my room for years) and several of these decals. One was on older brother's Schwinn from then on.

Those patches were reproduced during the Vietnam era (and perhaps later). My brother has one in his patch collection, it is nowhere near as nice as the early Lockheed ones shown above.

He was stationed at one time at Luke, AFB, where the Luftwaffe did some Starfighter training. He may have gotten his patch there.

Anyone know if foreign air forces used the patch?

I have a Turkish version and it certainly was very common in Turkish F-104 units from the 1970s to early 1990s. I am pretty sure other air forces used it as well.
