southwestforests
Have a video showing processes at Academy's factory, also includes a bit about design and about mold cutting. Quote July 17, 2024 Please turn on subtitles (CC) and watch the video! There is no voice, subtitles carry the description information in English.

RCarlson
That was a interesting video. It's always cool to see the process. Was that a P-8 Poseidon mold they were doing?
breadneck
Thanks for posting, always wanted to see videos like these because they are far and few in between.

They don't seem to currently list a P-8 but there is this kit, 12639 Boeing 737 Colombian Air Force (Released Jun, 2024) https://academyhobby.com/product/detail.html?product_no=561&cate_no=46&display_group=
jonwinn
Nice, I have a younger brother that was a mold maker for 30 some years. He showed me a lot of this at his shop. I worked in a weld shop and for a few years we made 150, 250, 500 and 1000 ton plastic injection mold machines. The level of machining and polishing of those molds is mind blowing, much of it today is CADD design and CNC machine tools. I am an old hammer and torch guy, this is out of my league! The cad drawings appear to show a P-8 possible. Hopefully,

In the 1970s and 80s one grandfather worked in a plastics plant. Only things I remember about it are feeling heat when close to some of the machines and that the whole place smelled like hot plastic. Curt B
I just wanted to add my thanks to soutthwestforests for posting this really great video! I think that too many of us don't give any thought into how our toys are made, or want to know and haven't gotten a good story of how it really happens.. Wonderful video, and thanks again! southwestforests
Thanks y'all! 😄 With my health what it is now I don't do that much model building any more but still want to participate and contribute.
skidbuggy
That indeed does look like a new tooling P-8. The 737 in Colombian colours might be the old Minicraft mould. I think we also get to see who inspector #13 is too in the vid. Edited July 20 by skidbuggy
HOLMES
WOW ! That was a cool video showing the progress of its models production. Thank you southwestforests for sharing it with us.
