Dr Fester
Just making a start on my Airfix 1/72 Concorde having been inspired by the example of Andy Mullens creation. However I seem to have hit a problem concerning the Nose/Shield assembly, no not the mechanism but the fact that the nose has the wrong profile. Maybe this has been highlighted elsewhere but I seem to have missed it. The opening in the nose for the shield is way too large, like almost a third to long. With the nose up this is less noticable but with the nose down it looks odd. As they say pictures say a thousand words. Here is the real thing:-
Dr Fester
Here is the kit nose as displayed on Andy's magnificent Concorde. Sorry to use your's as an example Andy, the only one I could find .
Dr Fester
So to replicate the nose down attitude :-

Dr Fester
To the heavily modified nose, and no the nose won't raise anymore. HTH, maybe this was because of the nose mechanism and clearance etc. To be continued...........
Andy Mullen
Looking good Doc. Yep there definitely a bit of artistic licence been used in the design of the Airfix's Concorde. Im still not happy with the look of the top of the visor either. But thats for one of the next builds. Ill definitelyy be watching your build with interest.
Sam747
Sounds like this nose needs some resin help?!, Hmm a resin nose would be good idea, now what else on the kit is needed!... Sam747

TSR 2
Am I the only one who thinks that some of the bits in this kit are from a different model? The fit of parts is more like a limited run kit than a mainstream manufacturer. Quality of detail (panel lines etc) is pretty poor, too. Brilliant subject matter but dissapointing kit. peebeep
The important thing is they sell lots in order to keep new subjects coming along. Hopefully the TSR2 will be a different ball game. Apparently some of the Airfix people have been somewhat stung by criticism of the Concorde at the Airfix website. Peebeep
Old72s
As noted in the other thread, the Airfix Concorde appears to be based on one of the early prototypes. In their desire to raise accuracy by using real aircraft rather than blueprints and photos, the manufacturers occasionally copy the odd museum exhibits. May I remind you of the Tamiya Dora? Considering how relatively inexpensive the kit is, those who really care will surely splurge for an aftermarket correction set.
StarTux
Well it looks like the Concorde never did get a new aftermarket nose, just new wheels (that I am just incorporating). Want to get this beast out the way, so it looks good enough, but so I can get onto something new...Next will be the Hase 1/48 F6F-3 Hellcat. But, having waited this long I have found out and hopefully avoided numerous pitfalls.

The quality is fairly typical of the larger Heller kits, even down to the multi-coloured plastic. How much input Airfix had into this I have no idea, but the production standards at least seem more Heller than Airfix to my eye. Stuart.
