F-16
I just got the Two Bobs 1/48 F-117A "Back from the dead" sheet (48-279). I wanted to do the "Dark gray" scheme for 86-0835. However I am confused about what color to use? Two Bobs says to use "FS36118 Gunship Gray". However this does not seem correct according to these pics... The color looks lighter than GG. I was thinking of using LGG/DGG or Haze gray instead. Does anyone know what the FS number of this "gray" is? Thanks for your help. Scott CNJC-IPMS
Fiddler
Sorry to hijack the question a bit, But are these photos post or pre-retirement/scrapping? The last one seems pre-scrapping or could offcourse also be pre-reactivating...
Quixote74
36118 Gunship Gray is correct for that scheme. The exposure in all those photos is what makes the gray appear lighter - note that in the shots with other standard black airframes, all of them appear dark gray (even in the hangar shot where deeply in shadow). There was an F-117 that wore a lighter gray scheme, but it was noticeably a two-tone scheme of 36176 over 36375, with "countershaded" areas similar to the F-15 Compass Ghost or Mod Eagle patterns. ya-gabor
The best light gray F-117 was that early one with the Scorpion art work!!!!!!!! It looked fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best regards Gabor
Thadeus
I'd go with 36118 as well. Perhaps even the lighter "shade" that the Gunze H305 makes. Here is a 1/72 scale F-16 painted with blackbased Gunze H308 alongside two models painted with Model Master FS 36118. Technically they are both same colour.
